To say that there's no competition at second is ridiculous. What about Polanco? He only hit .341 last season and has a better batting average than Utley over the past three years. And that's not to mention the fact that he did not commit a single error, ultimately winning the gold glove. I also think Miguel Cabrera should be considered at 3rd over David Wright. Yeah, I'm from Detroit...

I think Jeff Fancouer should be considered among the best in RF. Its funny how you didn't even mention him. Jeff has the strongest arm of any outfielder in MLB.

Derek Jeter is obviously the best SS in the league and has been for some time. Defensive Liability? Are you kidding me? He's a vaccuum at short and the best in the game throwing from the hole.

I think beckett is the best righty, but Santana is definately better than CC, CC has had one good year, but if johan gets traded to either NY team or Boston he is gonna tear up the league wit a good lineup to score runs for him.

really disagree with webb over Josh Beckett. Beckett has proven time and time again that he is the best big game pitcher in the league. Give me a guy who i know will give me a dominate game in the playoffs over anyone else. i'd also say papelbon is the best closer in the league. while nathan is **** good papelbon is just as good in the regular season and better in the postseason.

I look forward to when people finally recognize how valuable Yadier Molina is. That includes the St. Louis Cardinals. Cardinals want to give him 1.85 million and they wonder why he hasn't signed? He should have been a Gold Glover last year had he not missed a month with a broken wrist that he played 3 or 4 innings with.

He may not be offensive threat as some others, but he has become a threat on offense. Defense it just doesn't get any better. There's a reason nobody will steal off of him. I remember a game last year where the baserunner got a good jump off the pitcher, ball real low, Molina threw from his knees and still had the runner out by 2 or 3 steps!

He is the backbone of the pitching staff. As bad as they were last year, I think they'd be even worse without him behind the plate.


I love the comment about Albert there too. Coming off an "off year" when he still set records.

My dad, a life-long Cardinals fan, is convinced, starting two years ago, that Molina is a future HOF. You speak of his offense, well he was hitting in the upper .280's, I recall, before he got hurt. The production will come with him (in fact, he might be my late round fantasy catcher pick this year).

JT, I don't know any specific stats really because I don't care I just know he's become a better offensive threat.

His defense is his biggest asset. I'm young, but he's gotta be one of the best defensive catchers I've seen play. And I was sad to see Matheny leave..
