"This marks Duke's first All-Star invitation and it comes in the midst of a breakout season for the lefty. Though he has an 8-8 record, his 3.29 ERA ranks 15th in the NL and his 126 innings pitched are bettered by only All-Stars Tim Lincecum and Dan Haren."
"Duke has pitched at least six innings in all but one of his 18 starts this year and has 13 quality starts. The Pirates' offense has scored just 10 runs in Duke's eight losses this season."
Way to go, Zach!

If Zack would have had some run support this year he would have had at least 4 or 5 more wins. It's nice to see Charlie Manual reward him. Of course it didn't hurt that Zack pitched a great game against Charlie's Phillies the other night.
Congrats to Zach and Opp!

Thank you to everyone for remembering Zach as a hsbaseballweb "alum"! This place has always been special to our family. Extra thanks(still) to Bob.
Yes, Homerun04, there is a trip to St. Louis planned!
My wife and I received this news around 10:00 am Sunday morning. We were with Zach's wife and mother-in-law at their home north of Ft. Worth...we were all anticipating his arrival around 9:30 tonight and looking forward to spending some "relaxed" time together..
Needless to say there has been massive plan-scrambling since receiving this news! The airlines are certainly not providing us with any "discount" fares either(but the trip is worth every penny)! I also doubt that we will "relax" much for the next 3 days.
While I feel(like any Dad should at a time like this ) that Zach deserved this special honor for the work that he has done preparing for and during this season... just held back from being an "original all-star" by the "special" circumstances surrounding the organization that he plays for.
I sincerely hope that Matt Cain's injury is not serious and that he will make a quick recovery, but our family is(none-the-less) very proud to see Zach recognized for his hard work and determination.
Thanks again for all your kind remarks and for remembering what a large role hsbaseballweb played for our family from the Zach's age of 14 on!
Best wishes to ya'll! I gotta get my head out of these clouds!

I just read it on mlb.com and thought that'd there'd be something here to congratulate him on such a great job, good luck at the game and the rest of the season!
