Caleb Gindl is a freak. He was hitting nearly .500 over the first half of the season, before slowing down.

This is interesting because his MLB write up focused on his speed and questioned his ability to actually hit... which everyone around here found amusing. He's always been able to hit the ball well. Congrats to Ben on a good start!

Wouldn't the question of his ability to hit be about MLB pitching? Also, the scouts don't always get it right because they're projecting. A kid can change physically, mentally and emotionally after the projection is made. Being drafted in the 60th round I doubt any scouts had Mike Piazza projected as a ML player, much less the Hall of Famer he will become.

Sure you're right TG. I'm just glad that the "projecting" about one of ours was (at least so far) incorrect. Local bias aside, after watching him for years, I felt like he wouldn't have any problems. Hopefully, he'll be able to keep it up.

It's interesting watching these kids out of HS. Sometimes (just like any other drafted player) start out strong and can't handle it as they move up. Sometimes, it's just the opposite. Part of what makes enjoying minor league ball so interesting.
