2006 Results are in for the recent Missouri HS baseball coaches showcase in Hillsboro, about 40 miles from St. Louis. These aren't elite PG type kids mugging for pro and D-1 scouts. These players tend to be somewhat above average in mostly rural programs, though some groups from excellent St Louis schools attended. 60 speeds were dismal, and pitching speed was down from last year. The 60 was run in the outfield I believe. Many of the kids were freshmen and sophs.

Actually the players broke down this way:

40 '07s
49 '08s
19 '09s
5 '10s

Your right, only 4 players out of 113 ran under 7 seconds. Not good.

The event is traditionally skewed toward younger kids because one purpose is to select players for the state's team in the Junior Sunbelt games. But there were a lot of '07s now that you mention it. Only a few scouts attend usually.

Those few under 7 times were barely so! Don't recall, but the event, which can drone on all day, was probably held amid near 100 temps that week.

Few of Missouri's top players are listed. 90 mph pitchers have scouts come to them or they play for elite traveling teams that provide exposure.

I'm not clear on the hitting numbers. Do you know what scale they are using?

They used to measure bat speed in past years and score 1-5 based on swing appearance. But I don't know what the current numbers mean, 20 up to 45.

But they do seem to reveal batting ability. The St Louis kids who got 40s were all good players. Oakville's Cody Terry is the son of former Cardinal pitcher Scott Terry. Johnny Kelly is an excellent Lafayette player (mostly a pitcher I think) Eureka's Ryan Clubb is probably the brother of Tim Clubb who's now at Mo State.
