Does anyone know anything about the Blues and the Summer League they play in. Son may have an opportunity to travel West next Summer and hook up with them. A little info would be greatly appreciated.

While I haven't had one of mine in that particular organization...do have 5 years direct experience with the league...the team...and the community...and I'll get you started, big picture...

Assuming that you are not "Caping it" or taking in the sights of the Northwoods, The Blues are a good option...IMO a great portion of the Summer ball draw is the opportuity to experience another part of the country. The opportunity to play on the central coast of Califoria is an experience not to be missed, once in a lifetime kind of thing.

The town (SLO) is one of the few prototypical college towns in the state of CA, and the kids simply LOVE the place...fairly small...lots of things to do...Lots of young people...beaches are within 8 miles...weather is warm...life is really good....I may have a housing option for you, but we'll talk.

The team is a community stalwart and is good each year, playing in a nice community stadium located in a park and it makes a real effort as far as I know...If you check previous rosters you'll see that they carry many very good players and carry a bunch of Cal Poly players...Cal Poly is an excellent program..and provides players and coaches for the Blues.

The league(S) is/are in flux, but the competition will be good (not Cape or Northwoods, but still very good)...there are two competing leagues in that area, and the team plays teams in both, but the schedules end up quite good, as there are so many players from CA and so many players who want to play in CA. Check the rosters, Google the players and you'll see that it is a quality group of atheltes and coaches. The Blues sold two years ago?..but I would be confident that there will be good teams to play. Teams travel 2-4 hours generally, but the scenery is not to be missed.

While there are no guarantees...It's a good bet... I would be pretty confident that he will get some excellent competition, develop, have a great time, and return with a bundle of priceless memories.

I have lived in San Luis Obispo County since I was 5 years old. I don't think there could be a better location for weather. San Luis Obispo is close enough to the ocean that the fog cools the area down when the inland towns get too hot. It can be a little windy at the location where the Blues play (good for righties, tough on lefties). The field is good, but not as good as most college fields.

The new owner is energetic, but has recently been reported to be late on payment of bills. From what I am reading in the local papers, he seems to now be paying those bills off. He also owns another team in Lodi in the same league and has had similar complaints.

The Blues have been around a long time and do field very competetive teams. The players are mostly college, and many locals from Cuesta (JC) and Cal Poly SLO. There is also a team called the SLO Rattlers that are new and trying to compete with the Blues. They are sharing the playing field. I would say that they are a step below the Blues, but have some good people involved.

Having gone to school at Cal Poly SLO - I agree with the above 100%. There are not too many places that will beat that location playing summer ball.

I have to agree with everything said thus far. I do not live in the San Louis Obispo area, but agree it is truly a beautiful place with great weather. It's also a wonderful college town. I take my family on short vacations there each summer. However, you should know that like most coastal communities in California, it can be a very expensive place to live or visit. I would love for my son to get the experince of spending an entire summer there.
