The Collegiate Baseball - Louisville Slugger High School All American list is now published on the Collegiate Baseball web site. The site is baseballnews.com then click on All Americans.
Very true.... many lists depend on the input they receive, and many schools and coaches do not make submitting nominations a priority. I counted 17 CA names out of 194 listed. Based on the usual breakdowns I would have expected to see more than 9% from this area of the country. I don't doubt that all of these players are high profile players and deserving of recognition. But when I spotted several junior players on the list, named over seniors and all from the same state, I tend to wonder how the names for the list were determined.

No kidding. Just found it odd, that Erik Davis, who is from what I have read a tremendous pitcher, signed with a super D1 program, would not make the list, even the second team. You would think somebody as highly regarded as Collegiate Baseball Newspaper would do their homework. Anyway, congrats to all the pre-season all america's. I am sure each and everyone of them are highly deserving.

One really does have to wonder how(and why, especially pre-season) these teams are chosen. California has 17, Florida-19, and Texas-20. Normally, California always leads these teams in numbers. But more interesting is the fact that three individual highschools have three players each on first and second teams. Out of the 9 players only 2 are mentioned in Street&Smith.

I will agree with some of these HS picks but I see a school in Oklahoma has 3 players represented and the schools team is very average at best. I know Louisville Slugger does a good job but whoever nominated these Oklahoma players did not do their homework. Several very projectable players were left off this list which is unfortunate but I see Eastern Oklahoma POLITICS at it;s best.

Well, if ED's not on the list, they obviously have no clue what they're doing. I HATE politics in baseball. It's so useless and everyone sees it for what it is.

I can't believe it would be stats. As TRhit has pointed out, stats really aren't that meaningful. Players may be playing in a less dominating league and rack up near perfect stats while another kid may be playing toughest division and have merely admirable stats.
Can't believe it's that. But........
I gave up on these lists after seeing the Baseball America list for my state. It was pretty funny.

You can't get caught up in these lists. Coachs receive the paperwork and some send them in and some don't for whatever reasons. Also the stats that are sent in are a big reason kids are picked. We have already covered how stats can be skewed dramatically. A kid in a weak league even though he might be a good pitcher could have great stats. A kid in a very competitive league might not have as good as stats but could be alot better pitcher. I have nominated two kids for the Louisville Slugger Team. One made it and the other one did not. There are other factors outside of field performance that go into making the team. There are several questions that deal with community and extra cirrucular stuff as well. Just because a kid does not make the team does not mean he is not worthy. You guys know that it really does not mean a thing come draft day or signing day.
Its really no different than going into All Conference selection meetings at the end of the year. Some coachs come in and nominate just about every player they have. Teams that went 500 in the league have 6 guys that hit over 400? I have always just nominated the ones that I truely felt deserved the recognition so I dont diminish what they had done that year. Coachs are just different.
I know Collegiate Baseball said they recieved over 1000 nominations from Coaches and they do their best to check them out but there is always deserving kids left off of lists like this and some who made it who might not should be there. It is a neat deal to make it but the college coaches and pro scouts know who the best players really are. Anyway congrats to all of these young men.
JUNIORS GOT NOTHING TO DO THERE This list should be limited for seniors only. When it come to juniors, they left out some of the best out there, there is next year for juniors. But you know politics and "who you know" play a big role in the selection of these players.

If you watch carefully in upcoming issues of CB a lot of the missing names will show up---most of their input comes from the kids coaches and if the coaches do not submit info on time kids get missed initially-- some coaches put more effort into backing their kids than others-- did I hear the word "MARKETING"?
I have found in the past that they do a pretty decent job of "covering the waterfront' by the time HS baseball season really gets rolling.

It is what it is. It's a list. What makes things hard to swallow sometimes is not who is not on the list, but who is on the list which discredits the list.
There is a 1st Team RHP from ALA on the list which throws 78 to 80 mph. Rated by PG as a 6 and 7. and there is LHP from Miami, Gino ???? throws mid 90's, and is not on the list.
You have to wonder how much politicing is involved. This not a complaint, thats life. But for someone to deny that it doesnot exist is foolish.
Its just a list.
Congratulations to all that made it. Michael Vick never made 1st Team All Conference in High School either.
