Yesterday, My son received his first contact letter from a collage. I know it’s not that big of a deal, but it sure was cool to see my son’s name on the Duke university letterhead. As a parent you want to stay totally calm, and explain to your son that this is nothing more then a questioner, And hundreds maybe even thousands of these things go out from that school. But on the inside you’re screaming at the top of your lungs, “they want to know about my son”!!!!! How did you feel the first time your son received a letter. Or for that matter, how did you feel when your son had that first Official call, home visit, School visit, and so on. Randall
Congratulations! I know exactly the feelings you're having right now. You'll never quite forget that feeling either.
Keep a copy of everything you fill out and send back. I would also have your son write a nice, personal cover letter for returning the questionnaire as well.
And last, but not least, start your scrapbook now if you haven't already.
Again, congratulations!

Great feelings at first, the light at the end of the tunnel, hard work paying off, darn'd proud of the boy. It then turned a bit selfeshly bittersweet, my best freind was moving on, and without me. It was the first "leaving the nest" issue I had to deal with. Then he told me to grow up, and I've enjoyed the new ride ever sense.

One of the best days of my sons life was the first college letter. Enjoy it. About the time it starts gettting a little more commonplace, but never old,....the phone will ring and the man on the other end will perhaps nervously say "Hi, this is Coach soandso from U of __, is Randall Jr. there?" It's a kick in the butt, ain't it?
My son received his first letter from a major university a couple of months ago, and yes it was a wonderful day. He has received a couple more since then. He is only a sophomore, so hopefully some more will be on there way. Congratulations and good luck in the future.

It got to be a little sad that the highlight of my day there for about 7 months was driving up to the mail box. Then the boy started beating me home and I kept opening up an empty box!
It is great fun, and I makes an awesome scrapbook. Enjoy the ride Randall, many families don't get to experience it. Have fun!!

Randall thats awesome. I know that you guys are excited and proud. Coach Hillier at Duke is also recruiting one of our players hes a jr. I like their staff alot. Good luck and keep working hard because the joy is in the journey not the destination.
Randall - Congrats to your son! It really is a Kodak moment and one to enjoy. I agree with the suggestions to start now on your baseball files. Keep a log of dates received, dates responded, etc. Create a template for a cover letter to attach to the profiles your son completes. Enjoy every contact. You'll find that getting the mail becomes a lot more fun than it use to be!

Very neat and exciting! Save everything-someday your son will be trying to convince HIS kids that he really was an athlete "back in the day", and every little bit helps.

Congratulations!!! Start a book now. It doesn't have to cost much and sure keeps things organized. We just got a three ring binder with clear acetate sheets. Son slips in letter into 8x10 protective sheet and puts the envelope with the post date behind it. We also print out e-mails he sends to coaches and vice versa to keep track of it all. That way he has the information from each school all together in one spot.

Randall The first is the best!!! You can still ask my son who his first letter was from and he can tell you. But he can't tell you all of the school's unless he pulls out the scarp book. Good Luck in this process and enjoy!!
