Twins began the final series of the regular season 1/2 game ahead of the White Sox in the AL Central. Twins and White Sox matched up their results exactly this weekend, both teams losing Friday and Saturday and both winning today.
So Twins are still 1/2 game ahead and win the AL Central, right?
Nope, the White Sox had one rainout game remaining that would be played only if needed to decide the division. So on Monday the White Sox will play the Tigers. Go Tigers!!! If Sox lose, regular season is over with the Twins taking the AL Central. If Sox win, the Twins and Sox play Tuesday night for the championship.
Just to make it a little more interesting:
Twins Catcher Joe Mauer is currently in the lead for the AL batting title, but only by a tiny fraction. (After today's game, I think it's .329 for Mauer with Pedroia nipping at his heels with .327.) So if the Twins do have to play Tuesday, the AL batting title may be decided by how Mauer bats in that final game - if they don't play, Mauer won it.
Wow Julie! We'll be rooting for Joe and the Twins from CA! I grew up going to Met Stadium and watching my favorite, Harmon Killibrew. Do you remember when they would have a June is Dairy Month promotion? A cow milking contest and everything! (My dad provided the cows one year) It was exciting! We're gonna win Twins, we're gonna score, We're gonna win Twins, watch that baseball soar! ... And... Hamms beer was a big sponsor, so the Hamms beer song was part of the deal too. I remember my brother had a collection of paper megaphones from games - popcorn came in them... Ahh baseball memories! GO TWINS! And that handsome Mr. Mauer!

Oh, what fun memories you mentioned in your post. Yes, I remember June is Dairy Month. And I remember your dad's cows! Just kidding about the cows. Love the "We're gonna win Twins" song...makes me smile and sing along every time! And yes, I remember Hamms beer. Guess it wouldn't be politically correct these days to have an alcoholic beverage as a primary sponsor?

Why not? STL Cardinals (once owned by the famous beer company) play at Busch Stadium.
Wonder what kind of beer is mainly served there?

(pre division baseball) I remember when the Red Sox, Twins, White Sox and Tigers all had a chance to win the pennant with two days to go. The Angels finished 5th four or five games back.

Surely there would be an exemption if the spokesperson for the beer is a zany cartoon bear!

Juke Joint Duo - Goin' Down South Festival, day one, July 18, 2008. Washington County Fairground, Lake Elmo MN. ... juke joint duo deep blues festival ...
Cool! I know this is straying from the subject, but... If you go to the Washington County Fairgrounds and go to the flag pole - and look at the dedication plaque, you will see a list of names of the people who were on the fair board when the grounds was developed. You'll see - Paul G. Pierson That was my DAD!
