Does anyone know if St. Charles East still needs a head baseball coach? I noticed a listing on a web site and was unaware they were looking for one.

Anyone know of any other coaching vacancies?

My sources tell me that Coach Len is taking a year off, but he will continue to watch over the baseball program at St. Charles East. Word is that several good coaches have backed away from applying for the position after getting wind of this. Look for the sophomore coach to take the helm for the year with Coach Len coming back for the 2005 season.

Taking a year off, interesting. So this is a one year shot if they bring someone in? Aren't there any varsity assistants that would just be an "interim" for 2004?

My sources tell me that the people making the decisions for this position hold the sophomore coach a bit higher than anyone else in the program. I could be wrong, but that is my bet.

Its down to three people. The sophomore coach, the former(fired)coach from Jacobs HS, and one other guy. Should have a coach by the end of next week. Coach Len is not to happy about the whole process............ Stay tuned!

I "believe" that Andy was let go at Jacobs over the summer, hence he must be one of the finalists.

Reece has raised this topic before. I cannot substantiate the rumor that Coach J was "fired". I've heard various rumors. The paper stated he was leaving Jacobs to pursue a collegiate coaching job. As I've stated before, whatever the reason for his departure from Jacobs, he has been doing a great job with the infielders at ECC through 20+ games in the fall and througout the winter workouts.

Coach Genke is a great coach. He coached my son and is just a great human being. His kids are disciplined and challenges them to reach for their full potential as young men.

The other person that is mentioned in this thread is not a leader of young men from what I have heard from several people. I sure hope he is not applying for the job.

St.charles...pretty bold statement about someone you don't even know. Not everyone can please everyone else. Better to have just given a positive opinion about coach Genke, and not slander someone becuase of "what I have heard".
I know coach J from him working with my son. He sure seemed like a leader of young men to me when he worked with him and helped him with his hitting, mental game and in his confidence for the 5 months he worked with him. I also saw his players come into the facility just to talk to him...and the ones I talked too would have run through a wall for him.

Mde5,

Well said....

One may formulate an opinion based on hearsay information but your opinion may be dead wrong unless you have first hand information. Case in point, before my son started legion ball I had heard a great deal of hemming and hawing about the legion coach from various sources. Turns out he was one of the best coaches my son has had to date.

BigMW...I was a travel coach for many years...people either liked me or hated me...no in between. I had kids who played for me and their parents had reservations because of "stories they had heard"...but after they played for me...wished they would have come out earlier...
I had heard things about players and parents also...but I never let that cloud my judgement to have them play for me...and not one were as bad as advertised...lol...if they were..we kindly helped them move along to someplace else

Well, sorry to offend some of you, but regardless of my opinion they hired the sophomore coach yesterday. Their loss! St. Charles North's gain by keeping Coach Genke where he belongs.

not offended at all St. Charles....I just don't think negative things should be said...unless they are known for fact...
We all have opinions...and one is not better than the other, as long as the thoughs about someone are known or facts....

Good that they hired someone the players are familiar with...bad because he is a good coach...but he will have other opportunities

Mde5,

Exactly.....

I'm glad that hopefully, Coach J will be remaining at ECC as the infield coach. Their loss is ECC's gain.

"The paper stated he was leaving Jacobs to pursue a collegiate coaching job."

Then why is he applying for a high school job before the junior college season starts?

Hmmmmmmmmmm!

He is currently a volunteer assistant at ECC, meaning no money. He is married with three children, so I would assume he is looking for a paid position. I do not know what other coaching positions, if any, he has pursued. I believe his wife coaches and teaches at Jacobs and he still teaches there, so I would assume he is looking for a paid coaching position in the area. But if you're so interested in the truth why don't you ask him, Reece? Hmmmmmmmm.......
