Anyone out here know anything about the Nebraska Sluggers? I know they're relatively new, but I have no idea whether or not it's a good program. I'm pretty sure they're affiliated with the KC Sluggers. Thanks!

Dave Bingham, who put together the KC Sluggers is now the pitching coach at Nebraska so I suspect you're right (they're associated). Could be wrong though.

I've been to their site before but it really doesn't give much info. Still trying to figure out if they're just an overpriced club team or something worthwhile.

This is from their site:

What is the Nebraska Slugger Baseball Program?

The Nebraska Sluggers Baseball Program started in 2005 as a part of the KC Sluggers, a Premier Baseball of America team since 1991. The KC Sluggers Organization was founded & directed by Dave Bingham the former Emporia State, and University of Kansas Head Coach that guided the Jayhawks to the College World Series. Coach Bingham is now an Assistant Coach at the University of Nebraska. Although Coach Bingham no longer has ties to the Sluggers Program we have adopted his team’s reputation as a hard nosed style of play organization that shows respect for the game and its opponents in everyway.

Over the past summer the Nebraska Sluggers became its own organization and was accepted into the Premier Baseball Organization. Premier Baseball is one of the most highly regarded baseball organizations in the country. The League is made up of 16 teams from Texas, Missouri, Indiana, Kansas, New York, and now Nebraska. Over 20 players from Premier Baseball went in the Major League Draft in 2006 and another 50 players went Div.I .

The Nebraska Sluggers Baseball Program continues to be the avenue for college bound athletes. We have seen 16 High School Seniors further their baseball careers due to the exposure they received throughout the South & Midwest.

What is the Mission of the Nebraska Sluggers?

The Nebraska Sluggers Baseball Club is dedicated to the development of baseball players in Nebraska and the surrounding states. The Sluggers teams provide opportunity and training for the college bound baseball player, while emphasizing fundamental skills, baseball etiquette, good sportsmanship, and fun.

What is the Philosophy of the Program?

The Nebraska Sluggers teams are for the college bound athlete and their parents. The Sluggers want to give players in this area an avenue to be seen on a National level of play to enhance their ability to be recruited at a much higher level than what exists in this area currently. The Sluggers will provide the opportunity to develop the necessary skills through experienced coaching, practice opportunities, indoor facilities, and competing against the top teams in the country.

Although exposure is important to everyone, our primary focus will always be towards the overall development of the team. If we have a great team, everyone enhance their opportunity to play college baseball at a high level.

Program Goals

1. To enhance each players experience through reinforcement of the “Sluggerway”, mastery of basic fundamentals, and the development of team concepts in a highly competitive environment.

2. To help athletes develop a sense of teamwork, pride, all out effort, self-discipline, and self-motivation.

3. To provide expert coaches who genuinely care about the athletes and want to see placement of every player on the team at their highest level.

4. To assist the college bound athlete in gaining visibility for college recruiters and pro scouts.

5. To teach the player to represent themselves, their parents, and the Nebraska Slugger Organization in a class manner

The KC Sluggers best years were in the past. I am going to report what I've heard many times from kids and parents who have been associated with the KC Sluggers. A rip-off. If you pay; you'll be on the team; but you may or may not play. I know of other kids that were really talented, who claim to have never paid a dime.
