Is anyone going to the pitching/catching camp at Missouri State? Is this something new or is it an annual thing? Anyone have any opinions on the MSU baseball program in general?

Their site says that 15 of their players attended their winter camp.
We are giving it definate consideration! I have heard good things about their program, but we dont have any personal experience to speak from, yet.

I was actually talking to my coach about this camp today

From what he told me,its well ran.He also said that the majority of schools that are going to be represented are going to be competative Juco`s and D2 schools.

Depends on what you are looking for I guess

My son attended a few years ago and I understand they have all new facilities since then. Coach Guttin is a great guy. Not sure you're aware but Ryan Howard attended MSU a few years ago. They also made it to Omaha not long ago.

Mom of 2 catchers- Coach Howard Quigley is a phenomenal catching instructor. Coach Guttin is first class, and his staff- Coach Evans, pitching, and Coach Thomas, hitting, are all first class people and coaches. I HIGHLY recommend their camps to anyone and everyone. One of the best values, too.

Slugger419er--We are excited to go. I think my boys will have a good time. The younger one is taking his friend, the pitcher, and he is excited to go too. All that fun baseball, AND I get to visit with a few good friends and family down in south MO!

thanks for the good reference for the coaches. When you send two kids at a time to these kind of things, the $$$ adds up quickly and it sounds like it will be well spent here.

Glad to hear it. Have a good time, tell the boys to work hard, and yes, the $$'s add up, but you'll be glad you did it. Springfield is a great town to spend the weekend in as well. Happy Holidays!

I have heard this is a phenominal camp!!
My son had really hoped to attend, but got stuck in a work scheduling problem.
If anyone goes, please pm me and give us the scoop, as to how it went. I'm sure it will be great!

I had several young men attend this camp. They all had a great time! Coach Guttin talked to some of them personally one on one and they had outstanding comments to make to me about Coach Guttin. BTW, my 2b signed early to attend Missouri State.

All this anticipation is killing me! The weather killed the first weekend of the camp so this weekend is the beginning and the second weekend the first part of Feb. Of course, the weather isn't supposed to really cooperate this weekend, but at least it isn't an ice storm this time.

Congrats to your 2B! I hope he enjoys MSU.

Mom,

Took my son to the December camp. I believe it will be worth your wait. Coach Guttin ran a first class camp and I would recommend to anybody.

I wished I had been a member of this site a long time ago. Anyway, I also took my son (freshman) to this MSU (Hitting) camp in January, during the ice storm that devastated Springfield, and we both thought it was a very well run camp.

Coach Guttin was present during the entire three days and his coaching staff and many of their players showed a sincere interest in helping to improve each campers swing. They taught many drills that enable the campers to break down the swing for easier "self" evaluation and problem recognition. There were plenty of coaches/current players present to provide a great ratio for instruction. The facility they use is the same one used by the Springfield Cardinals, so it is top notch.

I would recommend a Missouri State University camp to anyone in the future. Well worth the money!!

Welcome jstrawn1!

My boys enjoyed the pitch/catch camp. I was impressed at how well the camp was run and would be pleased to have my son go to school there. I took a 14 year old and a 16 year old and was pleased that the younger one got individual attention also. We have been to other camps where the younger players got minimal attention.

I was shocked at the devastation in Springfield. Even a week after the storm, the amount of downed power lines was amazing. It looked like a tornado or hurricane had been through. Nearly every tree we saw had broken limbs and a few were even uprooted.
