This summer as part of team development, my son's team will be participating in both 12U (80' and 51' mound)and 13U leagues (90' and 60' mound) in the US. He is adjusting well to the pitching distance.

Last night I found out that they will be using a -3 bat in the 13U loop. He's big (5'5" and 155 lbs.). During fall training, he moved to a Louisville EXOgrid 30/21.5 from an Omaha 28/19.5 (he hung onto a small bat as long as possible). He likes the EXOgrid - dislikes Stealths flex-bat which he used in 2006.

He intends to use the -8.5 EXOgrid for the 50 games at 12U.

WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR A -3 IN THE 13U LOOP (about 20 games)?

We are considering but, not limited to:
a) Another EXOgrid 31/28
b) Trying a DiMarrini Vexxum
c) Going to a Louisville Warrior (lower cost) and see how things progress.

One thing I wondered about was whether to work towards using a -3 bat for both 12U and 13U, thereby keeping things the same.

I would say use one bat. He has to get used to -3 by 14u anyway. Sounds like the 13u league is working towards that goal.

you have a lot of baseball coming up - have fun

He will mostlikely use the EXO 31/28 in the future because of the bat rule. On the otherhand, if he grows a couple more inches within the year, the exo could end up being a waste of 300 dollars. So after saying that I would probably go with a cheaper bat, maybe the Louisville Warrior or the Louisville Genesis.
