My son was invited to play with a top notch team at the Cooperstown NATC this summer. Plans were made, tickets purchased, house rented, etc... and we just found out that the team was unable to go. Son is sooooo disappointed as this was a dream of his. Any suggestions on how to help a 12 year old deal with losing out on this last chance opportunity?

Yea, we know it's not his last chance but at 12 it sometimes can seem like it. Funny thing though, yesterday we saw a kid from the team he was going with and he told him there were much better places to go etc... and that sort of cheered him up, that and the fact he pitched a great game yesterday. We think he will survive, but I still feel bad for him.

I never went to Cooperstown, but my brother went 4 times (talk about fair, ha!), and trust me, there are better places to go- aka, the spring trip with the high school team, for example.

I wouldn't worry too much about your son. A 12 year old is a lot more resilient that we realize. They are old enough to realize there will be adversities and cannot have everything they want. They can cope. I would be more concerned about getting my money back on the tickets, and the house rental. To me that would be an real disappointment Frown
