I say this mostly tongue in cheek, and a little put in my place (rightfully so) from my 13-year old son. A few weeks ago after a game, our head coaches sister brings a b-day cake to the end of a game and we celebrate his b-day with cake. Fun, we all joke about we have not had snacks after a game for many years. The next week a mom bakes brownies and brings them. I, jokingly, comment this is embarrassing. Again, a few of us agree (moms included) say we have not had snacks since t-ball. After learning I somewhat annoyed the husband (very good friend and fellow assistant coach) by my comment, I apologized...all better now). HERE'S MY POINT...My son says to me, "Dad why do you get embarrassed, we kids think it's great!" After thinking about it, maybe he's right, we continue to say that it is for the kids....What's wrong with snacks at 13, even on a nationally ranked team??? Kind of brings the kids back down to that youthful moment that we all remember when they were so young. They grow up too fast.

Just food for thought.

My sons birthday is in mid july and of course every since he was 9 or 10, he has always had a game or practice on his birthday.....My wife always made a cake or cupcakes and brought it to the field so we, his family, and his baseball family could celebrate.

Last summer during American legion season, my son's girlfriend and his mom brought cupcakes......you would have thought the players were kids again....they loved it. Most of the kids on my sons legion team have been together since mustang league (9-10) and all remembered those days. They may be 17-19 now, but they are still boys........sometimes we adults make things too complicated....birthdays are fun (until you reach my age) and cake is good.
