Seriously! Why would anybody display pictures of their children not at this age only but at any age in their homes where visitors might see them?
JK! I enjoy the pics, it helps me get a mental pic of the kids when I read the proud parents stories.

Wow, I enjoyed these pics! Brings back memories! I wish we could have stored them on PC when son was younger.

I love the one of little Glove Boy, his glove is as big as him! Smile

I 2nd TPM's post. As I looked at these they reminded me of my sons when they were "little". It seems to go so fast! Enjoy every bit of it.

The way I see it is very similar as bkecks; we are a community with common interests - our children play baseball. As we journey down the road we've shared stories, asked questions and become friends with some of the websters. I really enjoy finally getting to see a picture or two of each of these kids. Callaway's son for instance has really grown since the last picture I remember of him and that's fun to see. I recall him talking about the joys of taking him to a local field to hit BP and how enthused he was. I've had the pleasure to meet some of our websters and I hope to meet many more of you and your sons. But for now, pictures will have to suffice.

InfieldDad - I too was going to slam you for asking what I thought was a snooty question considering you've got a picture of your son as your avatar....a bit ironic I thought. I was thinking that based on your response, maybe we're not allowed to be proud of our sons until they're in the minor leagues like your son. But then I figured I'd be nice and let it slide. Besides, there are much bigger concerns to worry in life. Big Grin So if you'd like to post pics of your MiLBer we'd certainly love to see those too!!!

Beezer, I asked the question because I was curious in various areas:
1.) The site contains a photo gallery and I wondered why post here as opposed to there.
2.) Was there a reason for posting photos in the pre-high school section that could be explained when there aren't similar threads/efforts, so far, in the high school, college or minor league sections.
3.) Would there be responses that would belittle, intimidate or ridicule me for asking the question.
I got my answers. Thanks. Confused

2Bmom--that picture is just too cute! My oldest is only 13 and I miss those days. There is something so innocent in those T-Ball years. The sky's the limit and no one telling anyone they can't reach for the stars. Love it!!!

But that doesn't explain, to me at least, why being proud of your son, at this age, translates into posting pictures of them on the HSBBW.

I guess my question would then be, what would be a good age to show pictures of your favorite ball players to your friends? If they are in college or playing professionally anyone can find pictures by googling or clicking on the players name in the team roster. Most pre-hs players will never get to play beyond hs, of 300 kids in the local youth league at the age of 8 maybe 6-7 will get to play varsity baseball and maybe 2 will play in college.
So I would think if you want to show your bbweb friends some pics, sooner would be better than later.

infielddad:

I have found the HSBBW Photo Gallery a little cumbersome to navigate. I don't know the last names of many of the posters here, including you. Thus, it is a little difficult to make the association of picture to poster. It is a nice start, though it's probably too often overlooked.

Is your son's picture there? I would like to check it out. I try to stay anonymous, so I haven't posted my guy's picture there. I was a little tempted to post an oldie here. This thread is a great idea in my opinion and I am not opposed to having something similar for the older players. I love photographs, especially baseball oriented ones.

Not my guy, but you gotta love the photo.

Note to Julie: I'm only guessing here, but doesn't the photo gallery use HSBBW storage space and bandwidth? I recall a discussion where you said that the pictures that are in the junk I post are really linked to other sites that have a negligible effect on HSBBW resources. Perhaps there could be a separate heading on the main forum page that might include this thread, one for HS, one for college, one for pros, and one for Gotwood's leftovers. Big Grin

Have fun!

I don't have a pre HS player and don't want to intrude, so hope you don't mind the link below.

I found this the other day on youtube, kind of sums up some of son's youth baseball experiences. All of these things bring back precious memories. cry

I guess I'm gonna light a fire here. Been thinking about this for a few days.

I like the pictures. I think they're cute. But I wouldn't have posted them of my own sons. First, they wouldn't have wanted them posted. Second, and lets be totally honest here, by posting them we are at least a little bit "promoting" our sons. I don't want to do that...at least not here.

I am here on this site because I've enjoyed the friendships I've made. I've enjoyed reading others' experiences with HIGH SCHOOL baseball and college ball...and yes, pro ball too.

I am here to learn from all of your experiences. And believe me, I've learned a lot!

I am also here to help anyone who wants help on a question that I ?may? have the experience to answer...or at least tell what worked and didn't work for our son.

I am not here to promote (or embarrass) any of my sons. I love them. I think they're great. But you will not see their pictures here, nor their stats, nor their latest accomplishments...not posted by me anyways.

Being totally (brutally?) frank, I do not think there should be a pre-HS forum on this site. And yes, up until about a month ago I had a fairly talented "pre-HS" baseball player...he is now in HS. Smile I think it is way too early to be thinking about baseball beyond HS. I think parents of pre-HS kids should be asking about other parents' HS experience...to learn from them about HIGH SCHOOL. And they can do that in any of the other forums on this site. I rarely read this particular forum because I really don't care too much for it. Someone else pointed out this particular thread to me since it involved some pointed comments at a mutual friend (infielddad) who happens to be one of the most well-grounded, kindest and most experienced posters on this site. That doesn't make him bulletproof or untouchable, but some of the responses are a bit harsh IMO.

I'm not sure I would have questioned the pictures...but I do understand why he did. It kind of hits some of us as bragging, promoting, etc... No, I don't think you're a knucklehead if you posted a picture of your son...not at all. I'm just saying I understand why he ?may? have asked the question.

pre-HS is a time for improving your skills and getting ready to "try" to make your HS team in a year or two. I personally don't think its a time to wonder about showcases, umpteen national championship tournaments (yeah, our house is way overloaded with those plastic trophies too) or college/pro ball.

Perhaps this site has outgrown me. I am getting that feeling a little bit lately. If so, I will move on to other hobbies. I recognize that the older I get, the more old-fashioned I am. I intended no direct criticism at anyone with this post...just telling you how I see it. Nothing more.

I could've sworn you had posted a picture before???

noidea

Edit: I think I'm going to take a little HSBBW sabatical....enjoy some college golf, HS football, etc. Sorry for offending infielddad and any others.

Maybe in my younger years Beezer...but not that I can recall...other than the Stanford tree Eek and an avatar from time-to-time.

Bystander (this is in reference to a deleted post after I posted this...nothing bad about Bystander's post, I just wanted to make it clear I was ok with his/her comments) - Your pictures don't offend me at all. I'm gettin' pretty old and don't get offended too much anymore. The shots that some took at infielddad for asking the question did bother me a lot though. Of all the people to take a shot at...GEEZ! noidea

I just thought I'd post something a little uncomfortable but worth thinking about because I'm also getting old enough that I don't worry too much about everyone liking me or not.

Sometimes I think we behave like a mob on here and jump on someone just for asking an unpopular question or stating an unpopular opinion. And I think there are a couple of places reserved on here for bragging/promoting, but it seems to be invading a lot of other forums lately. I DO root for all of the kids on here. I follow the ones in college and pro ball through the internet all the time and I also follow the local HS kids from here by going to their games in person often as well. I love baseball and I love kids!

To me, its amazing how quickly things have changed in the last 3-6 years...attitudes, etc... I often think that people a few years ahead of us probably looked at the way I/my family did things and thought we were a little "out there" and that down the road you may feel that way too about those behind you. So like I said, I just thought I'd post something a little 'different' and let others think about it.

Just an opinion, nothing to get wound up about and nothing more. I don't expect to convince anyone of anything.

BTW, Ohio is where I grew up and I love it. Go Bearcats! Wink

I have never said I was offended by this thread. I was, and am curious. This thread is different than my way so I asked a question and reiterated that it was just a question.
There is nothing better than the next group who will be benefitting from the HSBBW. Kids this age are truly wonderful and I have great memories of coaching every year from ages 6 to 15.
There isn't anything bad or offensive by this thread. It was different for me. I asked a question because the thread did make me think..a lot, about kids and parents and baseball.

Well, this used to be a fun thread. But now it looks like it's turned into a forum for a few HS and post-HS parents (certainly not all), however well-intentioned, to tell pre HS parents how they should think. Admittedly, I'm just this year a HS parent, but it was fun to look back at what was not so long ago.

I think everyone certainly respects the views and opinions of those of you who have been on this site for a long time, and whose sons have gone on to great things. We can only hope to experience some of the things that you have. I for one very much appreciate the opportunity to learn from you. But I think these pre-HS folks have every right to have fun and celebrate their sons' accomplishments without having a virtual wet blanket thrown on them. I agree that some of the responses to infielddad's comments were unnecessarily harsh, but unfortunately, and as one of the posters on this thread wrote already, it happens all the time on this site. It's too bad. But no one is immune.

I finally caught up with this thread last night. As one who posted pictures of his sons, I can only say that my sons, after seeing other pictures on here, wanted their pics on the web. They thought it was cool. No big deal, at least to me. So is that bragging or promoting? I suppose someone might think that I'm bragging that I own a camera. I didn't list their names or their career stats or draft status.

And I wondered why two old-timers on this site would wander over here to criticize others. Perhaps I should go over to the player's only section and explain to them that they're doing things differently than I did at that age. That would go over really well.

As far as bragging or promoting goes, I would consider the following much more in line with those descriptors than posting anonymous pictures......in the "Please Identify Your Son" thread I notice that (on page 3 of that thread) justbaseball has identified all four of his sons by name, including their school, draft status, etc., including his pre-HS son. You actually put your son's name out there?? On page 16 of that same thread, infielddad identified his son (by name) and his school, noting that his son is the "shortstop and team captain".

Those who live in glass houses......

Jon

Wow - I am new here and I love this site. I maybe should not say anything as I am new, but, I think
We just need a little TEAM work thats all.

Our HS coach says the word team is an abbrevation
for:
Together
Everyone
Achieves
More.

We all have something to offer, the excitement of being new and the wisdom of being through it with every step along the way being covered by some one.

Lets go TEAM!
