Can someone answer this question, how many 15 yr olds can a team have. I was asked this the other day and wasn't sure if it was 5 or 8 ???

I believe the charter says 5 of each 13, 14 & 15 yr olds. Some will carry less, but I believe your league may see it differently. If there were only a certain amount of one age group available, then more of another age group may have been allowed. Your league president may be the one to ask.

I never liked the May 1 cut date. Puts too many 13 yr olds on the toy field. By moving the date furthur up to Jan 1, just about everyone who's 13 plays on the toy field. USA Baseball should be moving the dates BACK to Dec 31 so that if a player turns 13 in that calendar year, he plays on 60/90.

My son was among the youngest in his age bracket entering his freshman year in high school as a 13 yr old for his freshman season when most of the ballplayers were 14 and some 15. He didn't play with most of his classmates until he got to high school because his birthday was so late in the year he played with mostly kids of lower grade. That shouldn't happen and it wouldn't if the age cutoff was based on their age in the calendar year using a Dec 31 cutoff.

In the end, I guess it didn't hurt him since he went on to be a varsity starter and hit in the meat of the order but he had to catch up real fast in his freshman year since he never played up before that.

Yea, I'm sure he could've played up during his LL years but he didn't want to go crazy looking for a league or ourside travel ball that would take him. He just wanted to play local, do some all-stars and some local travel ball.

Our league has a cap on 13yr olds. Each team (10 in total) can only draft 3 13yr olds per team. The other slots must be filled by 14's and 15's. The remaining 13's play in a prep league. The idea was the lesser skilled 13's were only playing 2 innings and 1 at bat and then riding the pine which was obviously boring for them. By creating the prep league they got a lot more playing time and developed more then they would have playing on a Babe ruth team. Those that did improve and have some skill then get drafted as 14's and 15's. The leagues idea being it would keep kids playing the game longer. I don't think there is a limit on 14's or 15's. Next year we will have 7 15's and probably 5 14's (3 current 13's moving up and 2 draftee's to round out the roster) to go with the 3 13's that will be drafted. The number of 14's and 15's ebb and flows year to year.
