Baseball is a red-blooded sport for red-blooded men. It's no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out. It's a struggle for supremacy, a survival of the fittest. – Ty Cobb

What does the $500 go toward? Field maintenance, uniforms, insurance, sanctioning fees, etc? Is this the total cost required to play, which includes uniforms?

Middle schools here generally don't have baseball, but school sponsored sports all have a fee. It is usually about $200 per sport.

Might as well get used to it, HunterMac. Especially here in FL with all the budget cuts, schools generally don't have funds for field maintenance, uniforms, umpires, bus drivers and gas to away games, etc. Our HS players pay about $300, but other schools in our area pay anything from $900-$1400. Generally, you can cover those costs with sponsors.

Volusia County Florida has just eliminated JV Baseball as well as most other JV High School Sports... Other counties will follow suit more than likely, because of overwhelming state and local budget cuts...

$500...? For Middle School...? Go join a Travel Team, and/or get pro instruction...

Our school district charges a one time (per year) student activities fee of $50. It's due on making the first activity of the year.

The 7th grade coach was always asking my son what drills his travel team does. The 8th grade coach was a former player and knew his stuff. Travel ball was only $500 during the middle school years for fifty games and quality coaching.

There are areas of the state where middle school baseball has been eliminated.

Central Florida has a privately run eighth grade league that charges around $200 if I remember correctly. They have fundraisers to help offset the cost. It was a pretty good value in my opinion. They scheduled around most of the big tournaments and had a double elimination tournament at the end of the season.

In our area of Illinois (don't know about other parts) they play junior high/middle school baseball and softball in the fall. Yes, there is a fee-- $45. Our school district charges $45 per sport 6th grade up. BUT, they put a max fee per family at $110 per year.

Our School district doesn't have middle school baseball.

I'd gladly pay a reasonable fee to play ball.

Our Jr. High charges $55 or $60, can't remember. It's been increasing every year.

They provide socks, pants and a vest for baseball. All have to be returned and all have clearly been used several seasons.

Arizona also has a tax law where each family can donate up to $400 to any school / program at the school and get a tax credit for the entire amount (state taxes reduced by $400). You can break the $400 up so you split among all the kids. Many sports and extra curricular activities need this to survive.

Of course the state is over budget, under funded, etc and they're looking for 'opportunities' so I'm sure its on the chopping block.

Our school district don't have MS ball but the jrhs and hs charge about $50 per sport. Of course they claim they don't get enough money from the budget but we know how the school system works (at least in our state).
