In your opinions what is the best summer camp for a 16 year old in the Atlanta area. He is a 10th grader playing Jv. He plays OF and is a RHP. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If he can get to it: Clemson. 2 hours from ATL. Excellent experience there when son was 15. We also had a good experience with UGA's camp in Athens. Both were overnight camps--5 days. Check out GA Tech as well.

IMO, most day camps in the immediate area are open to much younger kids, and the instruction is not as advanced. Go for a camp designed for high school kids rather than all ages.

Thanks I appreciate the responses. It looks like the Clemson camp will be the one. It is the one that everyone is recommending.

Good choice! Send lots of clothing changes. Baseball all day, everyday, dawn till dusk. No extra activities like swimming or frisbee... just baseball. My son sweated through every piece of clothing he had 3x over. Icky ride home from camp!

Also, be sure to take the biggest cooler you can filled with ice, drinks, snacks, etc. that you can leave there for him to have each day. I even saw some campers arrive with small refrigerators...LOL.

Quill is right about the clothing. You can't carry enough for him to change into throughout the hot summer days. Be sure to carry a change for him to get into on the way home!

Just curious with the recommendation of Clemson's camp. Has anyone had experience with both Clemson and Ga Tech's camps and is saying Clemson's is better? Or is it just that you've had a good experience with the Clemson camp?

I have taken my son to both GT and Clemson. Although they were completely different camps.

Jack Leggett is a baseball drills MANIAC!!! Your son will get more reps in the time at Clemson then he will get in a month of regular baseball. There is never any standing around. It is all baseball all the time.

Danny Hall does a good job also. My son only went to his hitting camps and enjoyed them but Coach Hall was not as involved as Coach Leggett is.

Agreed, WA Dad. Granted, the last time my son did the Tech camp was when he was around 12, but he thought there was too much talking and not enough playing. There is an overnight option for high school kids, so maybe it's different for older campers.

Clemson is well run, active, and advanced IMO (and son's/son's team mate.) They have a day camp for younger kids, but it's run on other fields from the older kids. Good coaches, positive, tough, and instructive. Keep in mind it is physically demanding, so if a kid isn't in great shape he should get in shape before going or it will be really exhausting.

I also agree with YGD. Send snacks & drinks. Some kids had a little business going selling food to other campers because the student center was closed when they had time off, so no buying extra food.
