Anyone out there know anything about the program at Brookwood High School in Lawrenceville, Ga? I know the varsity team did great last season but I keep hearing the freshman and JV team was not so great and the outlook for this year is pretty low. They had 9 seniors graduate??? True? I live in the district but am leary of what son is walking into in high school. I'm told this years incoming talent is pretty low with many political games going on. Should I stay or should I go?
I'm sorry but not sure what this has to do with your son's High scholl education...that is still important right??? ( I know I'm being a bit wise) but when we as parents start moving kids to different programs I don't think it is good. If your Son is a player he will get the opportunity. 9 seniors graduate so that means opportunity. Plus whne your Son is an upper classman the team should be stronger.

You're not being wise. I agree with what you are saying about education being the most important thing for my son. However, living in the area now for a short time I have seen a lot going on in the area in the way of a downward spiral in more ways than just the sports program. Frankly, I'm concerned with the choice I made in moving here. I went by statistics in education so far, not thinking to look at what was coming. The future does not look as bright in all aspects of the Brookwood district, not just in the sports program but that is a big indicator of the area as a whole if you ask me. quote: Originally posted by Dawgfan: quote: Originally posted by BBISME: I poste dthis originally in the General Items tab but think I should have posted it here.

Brookwood did lose 9 seniors, but have a decent returning group of pitchers which will allow them to qualify for the state playoffs again next year, although they will lose some region games and not go undefeated like last year. The biggest problem with Brookwood and some other schools in the area is that the coach forces them to play summer ball which limits their college recruiting opportunities. After a player skipped summer ball and was cut a few years ago for "not being good enough", he signed at Florida State. The double standard has to stop at schools like Norcross, Brookwood, Parkview and others.
For a team that was ranked #1 in the nation (eventually ending at #3) to only have 2 D1 recruits is hard to believe. Their strengths were team depth and experience, some very good defense plus clutch hitting. It is not likely they will repeat last year for a while, but you never know.
Academically it is as good of a public school as there is in Georgia, however there are many good schools in the area. Demographics are changing throughout Gwinnett, I would say Mill Creek will be the school to beat in baseball in the coming years.
The coaches at Brookwood are pretty good, the facilities are very good and support for the program is strong. If they followed the rules regarding summer ball it would be a very good place to stay and play.
