It's early and I'm sure offers are still out there on the table but the '08 class for GA is shaping up nicely. First, need to get through the NLI signing period(s), then '08 MLB Draft, but if we can get all of them on campus....these players should compliment their existing roster nicely. There will be more names added when I hear about them but this is what I know so far:
#3 prospect in GA, #8 in Nation, Michael Palazzone, RHP, Lassiter HS in GA #4 prospcet in GA, #17 in Nation, Xavier Avery, OF, Cedar Grove HS in GA (football recruit)and baseball #8 prospect in GA, #87 in Nation, Jay Austin, OF, North Atlanta HS in GA #9 prospect in GA, #93 in Nation, Chase Davidson, 1B/3B, Milton HS in GA #4 prospect in VA, #111 in Nation, Peter Verdin, OF, Paul VI HS in VA #8 prospect in MA, #447 in Nation, Blaine O'brien, RHP, Scituate HS in MA #41 prospect in GA, #486 in Nation, Jonathon Taylor, OF, North Cobb HS in GA #24 prospect in VA, #582 in Nation, Levi Hyams, 3B, Colonial Forge HS in VA
(rankings will change numerous times between now and the 2008 MLB Draft)rankings current as of 10/9/07

I'm surprised by the potential 22 recruits, granted they will probably lose a couple at the top but it still does seem high to me considering the new roster sizes. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm not a Georgia baseball fan, but I think it is great that they can attract this level of talent. I'm sure they must have others committed who are not rated.
However, I would be concerned if I were the parent of someone in the recruiting class. This seems unusually large and sets up several players for being disappointed.

BIG DITTO! There are going to be some very disappointed and potentially misled parents and players in that class.......

Only if Georgia's top 8 recruits (ranked from #8 to # 111 Nationally)decide to turn pro does begin to look like a reasonable recruiting class. Maybe they are counting on losing 8 or so recruits to MLB. I would guess that would be a possibility. The top 8 are probably going to go in the first 10 rounds or less.

...with less than two weeks til NLI week for baseball it'll be interesting to see how many of the '08 recruits sign.....I've heard that Jay Austin may have decommitted already from UGA, verballed to Florida instead. Also UGA picked up another recruit for '08 but we'll probably never see him set foot on campus......see revised list..

..with the early signing period now upon us, GA received their first six signees today, with more expected during the early signing period which lasts from 11/14 thru 11/21. I'll update them as I get them......
....and then there were 20.....Georgia signs their last four recruits for the early signing period. Read more about them below and take a sneak peak at their class of 20 from 2008.

Just trying to understand: UGA's web site confirms that the early signing class features 19 high school seniors and one junior college pitcher, a total of 20 recruits. Their current roster includes 38 underclassmen (25 FR and Soph, 13 JR's). So to get to the 2009 roster limit, the coach will cut / ask-to-transfer 23 players?
