Does anybody know of some good camps or showcases that are good for a freshmen to go to? I would just like to start throwing my name out for some colleges. Just want to start to get noticed. Any info. is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

It's a little bit early as a freshman, so I wouldn't spend a lot of money on showcases just yet. Most colleges are looking at 2009,2010 and maybe a few of the more studly 2011s right now. Camps might be a good thing if you choose them carefully and think about your reasons for going. If your reason for going is to get some extra instruction in your position, then check out the camps to be sure they aren't just "general" instruction camps that are money makers for the school and invite every age group from age 8-17. Those aren't usually very productive if you are a high level ball player. Some schools offer "advanced or elite level" camps for rising soph-srs only. Those might be a good fit and give you a week of intensive instruction that would benefit you. If you are looking to be noticed by these schools, just know it will be hard when you are one of 100 kids at the camp and a freshman... unless you have amazing skills.

When my son was a freshman we went to one out of state small D1"instructional prospect camp" that was open to rising sophs. We went just so that he could get his feet wet without any pressure. It wasn't expensive ($100) and was fairly close by. A good experience that helped him see where he needed to be by his Jr year. He also went to an excellent larger D1 camp for one week just for the coaching/instruction at his position, and that was very valuable. Didn't get him noticed by this school, but it did give him some very good experience and knowledge.

As a freshman, I'd recommend that you spend the time and money this year playing competitively over the summer and getting private batting or position instruction as needed. Save the showcasing for summer before and after your Jr year in HS.

Clemson has a GREAT summer camp! The kids never stop moving and they get a TON of reps.

Yep, WA Dad. That's the one my son attended his freshman summer and it was really excellent. Recommend highly. Played hard from dawn to dusk. His clothes could have walked home on their own, they were so saturated with multiple layers of sweat.

I too highly recommend the Clemson camp. 2nd to none. Be sure to carry a small frig with drinks and snacks for them during the week. The dorm rooms are b-a-r-e!

When he is Junior AND Senior, he should plan to attend Young Harris's showcase. They have 2...1 usually in August and a 2nd one 4-6 weeks later. If possible, register by spring or you probably won't get in. It's THAT good.

You shouldn't overlook the benefits of winter camps as well. Quite often, they tend to be smaller in numbers - thus giving you more one on one instruction from coaches.
