Should players be considered pitchers only as freshman and sophmores?
Our JV team took a HUGE roster and after watching a few games it's obvious some of the players are going to be pitchers only.
They are good pitchers. But two of them are actually better hitters than several of the "every day" players and just as good in defensive positions.
So that's the question. Some of our parents feel it's great because they can focus on developing as pitchers. Some feel they are too young and should at least hit (if they can) and at minimum take batting cage.... One thinks it's because of the big roster and it helps with "crowd control"
I can see both sides of it and am wondering how other more experienced baseball parents see it.

Would not want my sons to be labeled a pitcher unless that was all they could do. Have seen guys lose the ability to play in field and hit when they are deemed a pitcher. They are too young to do this unless that is all they can do and that is reality for some. They have the ability to throw fast and good but can't catch or hit.
