Good luck to all the HS players on your upcoming season. Here are my top picks for 5A.
In no particular order.

Henry County, Roswell, S. Gwinnett, East Coweta, Kell, Lee County. Sleeper: Newnan

FS:

What about Milton? They are loaded with ECB players (Fowler, Prasch, Norton, Sheffield, and others).

Northgate has some players.

That's alot of talent but I didn't remember them doing well last year and went out quietly. I am wrong? Talent is definitely there, is it the coaching? Let me know. Also, Northgate is 4A but yes has got some players besides Copeland and Casey.

Milton is my pick to be state champs. Prasch is the best left hand hitter in Georgia. Fowler can play the outfield with anybody, and they have pitching to match up with anyone. But I do like your other picks,(except for Roswell) FS.

I am a parent of a Milton player so thanks for the complement SS. Although, there is a fair amount of talent on the Milton team this year I am not quite ready to predict a state championship. It is hard enough just to qualify for the state tournament. We had a good team last year, finished third in the region and could not get past Redan in the first round. However, I differ with your opinion concerning Roswell. They have at least three kids playing for the EC Yankees this summer and I belive that they will be very good. Solid defense, hitting and their new coach Power has won numerous state championships in Al and GA. Also, even without Barthmier they have Quigley, Bohanon, Robinson and others that should prove to be a very good pitching staff.

FS.
Since I live on the northside I am not that familar w/ Newnan this year but, I am familiar with several very good players from E. Coweta (Emus, Pope and others I can't recall at this second), Henry Co. (Rozier plus atleast another very good pitcher) and Lee Co. I believe that much of the Lee Co. team has played together since little league when they were the Dixie Youth State Champs. I am not sure what S. Gwinnett has but, I know that they have had a consistently strong program. I know that there are other very good programs that you did not mention that will be in the hunt.

There doesn't seem to be a desided favorite this year like Parkview and Lassiter were a couple of years back. The senior class throughout the state is exceptionally strong this year. I look forward to a very exciting year of high school baseball in GA.

I know of a team that is going to shock a lot of people in Georgia. I don't want to completely ruin their early season element of surprise. But I will let you know they play in region 6AAAAA.

If Northgate can battle through the injury problems that are plaguing them right now, they will definately be the team to beat...

first game: 14-4 in 5 innings vs. Landmark (6 starters either coming off the bench or out of the game totally)

BBFORLIFE,
I don't believe that there are any suprises in 6AAAAA. With the exception of a couple of teams there are a good ten teams that are capable of winning the region.

Etowah had a tremendous team last year and I understand that they are just as good or better this year. The way the region was split last year really worked against them.

Sequoah has Danny Payne and many other very good players. Many consider, myself included, believe that Danny is one of the best players in the state. Woodstock, Chatahoochee, Cenntenial and Cherokee are always very good and have a good number of outstanding athletes. And I haven't even mentioned Lassiter or Pope.

So, if your surprise is one of the teams I mentioned. I don't think that they will be surprising anyone around here. If not then I believe that many will be surprised.

After watching McIntosh, I think they might be a player in this thing. too. They've got some good sticks 1-7 and Ryan Schwartz can flat bring it.

From what I've been told, most of their team is back from the team that took Colquitt to three games--though they did lose one super star.

Justhitit: I hope your not suggesting the rest off 4A call of their seasons and go home. A lot will happen between now and June.

McIntosh also has a good lefty pitcher that can hit named Brendan Hall. Has anyone seen him this year. He is only a soph, so I am not sure which team he is on.

Also, in 4A Northgate can be very good this year as 06 said. They just must get healthy.

McIntosh played Northgate in a great game this week. NG won 1-0. Ryan Wetzel and Schwartz pitched. Neither gave up an earned run and Wetzl held the Irish to two hits. Brendan Hall came in to relieve Schwartz in the 6th and shut down NG. It was a fun game to watch. There were no fewer than 7 scouts there to watch the game.

Although my son is a sophomore in college, I still like to go back to his old high school games when I can. I saw Redan beat Kell on saturday. They have some pretty good pitching and Chris Nelson is doing excellent at DHing. Where do you all see Redan fitting in to tournament play?
