OK, OLDSCOUT I'll add a changeup. I am from Region 2 AAA. I have to say that to me the region talent is watered down from years past. There is talent, but it is spread around. The first half is about to wind up and 5 teams (Columbus, Harris County, LaGrange, Shaw, and Troup) are in the hunt with the edge to Columbus, but they play Harris County tonight. Nobody seems to have a dominant pitcher although there are several good ones. I’ll run down a few names of juniors or what I think are unsigned seniors from some of the teams. Pitchers – Ogawa Columbus and Moffit LaGrange are both senior LH pitchers. I know Ogawa has not signed. Foster has been doing well as a RH pitcher for HC. He is a junior and plays SS when not pitching. Catchers – There are several prospects with Doyle - HC, Wood – Northside-Columbus, and Weems – CHS are all juniors. Buchanan is another at LaGrange, I am assuming he is a senior, but I do not know whether he has signed or not. Others – Miles for HC leads off and plays second. I did not get a chance to see Troup play. There are some others, but I will wait until the second time around to mention any more names.

Buster Posey at Florida State sure is doing well now-a-days. Been several, in fact over three years, since I found him playing for Lee County HS in a "hot" summer tournament in Perry, Ga. with no scouts within a hundred miles and not one card filled out by Buster's own admission till I showed up and that soon changed, of course. Glad those followed up on him that I referred him to. Update on Most Recent Finds, results as follows>

But I had received a player info card on Buster dated 05/29/2003 5:01:43pm . MLB scouts had seen him before that time, there were articles in Albany Herald saying MLB scouts clocked him at 90 mph on the stalker gun in april 2003.
About 15 MLB scouts at The Georgia Dugout Club Showcase in early July 2003 on thr first day. Buster pitched on day 2 maybe 3 mlbs scouts there then. It rained alot.Buster was 87-88 mph and said his shoulder was a bit tight
he did use you as a reference.
Plus MLB scouts are not suppose to tell any other teams about prospects they find. Alot of mLB scouts have trouble following that policy
Get a card on younger brother Jack, he was mid to high 80's in fall 2005, had coached him the in the fall in a tournament.

Do believe I first saw him in summer of 2002 in Perry Tournament and not one scout other than myself was at this tournament. Find it mighty strange that not one scout other than myself was present if he had already been found. Highly unlikely. We may need to ask Buster and ck with Lee County HS coach on that one.
Doesn't matter anyway, at least he is doing what I said he could do and having success at Div I powerhouse following the footsteps of another I saw as freshman in HS, Stephen Drew
List gets rather long after a few years and you would think somebody would recognize this. peace,Shep

Once Tim Osborne finds out maybe then...but not until then.
Worked with Russell Branyan in WR long before Bureau had him in and it was impossible to hide him even in early 90s much less now with all the amateur scouting services, definitely impossible to hide anybody unless they choose not to promote player due to personality conflicts or some other reason, seen this too.

How could Buster Posey use me as reference if I hadn't seen him first??? Like I said though, "it takes a village to raise a prospect to these levels and a great deal of talent as well which no one except Buster can take credit for". It's not about who found who or who did what blah blah blah but what the kid does with the chance given and/or enhanced by others.
Good Example: This past Thursday at John Carroll HS vs Heritage HS game a hitter on deck kep't looking over my way like watch me karma scout Shep- So I pulled out my stopwatch to get ready to time him and kinda took close look at him swinging in on-deck batting circle. He started swinging full-speed trying to impress and gain further attention until his actual AB. In his AB he waved at an off-speed pitch and hit lazy flyball to RF. Guess what, I'm timing him and he doesn't hustle. His time was like 5.5 w/turn which is unacceptable for an athlete of his caliber IMHO ! I just casually put stopwatch back in my pocket turned to the scout beside me and said, he doesn't want it bad enough. Left later that inning and probably won't see this prospect again this spring. Let that be a lesson to all you HS/College prospects out there to give 100 percent all the time and not just sometimes because the one time that really counts, just may be your last with those scouts there, in some cases. Peace, Shep

Not sure what you mean by a "top prospect". The top prospects in Georgia we usually never miss. We sure didn't miss Buster Posey and actually saw him play before any of the dates listed above. He played in our tournaments, he was at our National Showcase, we recommended him to USA Baseball and we selected him for the Aflac Classic.
He's an outstanding player and an outstanding pitcher who threw 90+ at a fairly young age.
Why does it satisfy you that these "top prospects" are not listed with us? Is there some kind of benefit, I'm not aware of, in being unknown?
It's been many years since we missed a top prospect in Georgia. If we did, so did all 30 MLB clubs.

You guys are by far one of the best (if not the best) baseball scouting organizations in the country. My sincere apologies if I tweaked a nerve with my last post. The use of the word "top" was a slip of the old brain.
My intent in this forum is to bring attention to High School players (possible prospects) that have not had the opportunity to be seen by PG or others.
As I said in a previous post there is alot of high level talent in Ga. that has still not received that "magic call" that many hope for, and by getting those names out there with the High School playoffs just over the horizon maybe it will allow them to get some additional exposure.
Standing near Buster last year I overheard someone complimenting him on a great day at the plate. His reply was simple "I was seeing the ball real well today". A fine young man showing his maturity and one heck of a player who is just really starting what will be a long baseball career.
