Yep--another reason why this site is so awesome for those of us with younger ball players. We now have the ammo to see that our kids realize from the get go that academics before baseball will help you get where you want to be without it being mom/dad's idea. Thanks a bunch!!

Sometimes the "bomb" needs to go off early--my guy was in the fall of his senior year when it finally hit him---it took a full scholarshiip to a major Division II program that he could not accept because of poor grades to shake him up.

Yes he ended up playing Division I ball in amajor program but the "bomb" went off and in his senior year he was a B+ student whereas prior to that he was a C student

Thanks to all for their advise!

TRhit,
So your saying that your son was a C student and brought his grades up to a B+ in his Senior year and still was able to play D1 ball? Did he play at a JUCO first?

Also, does it make a difference if he is not looking for scholarship money? Is the grade expectation somewhat lower as long as they aren't coughing up the tuition? We're not looking for hand outs just a good "baseball friendly" school that he can play at the highest level and walk away with a piece of paper, being either a degree and lifelong memories of his glory days or a contract with a nice signing bonus so that he can pay us back! Win, win, either way!

+123

His senior year GPA was a B+--got the overall C up .2 or .3 points in the last year

He was eligible coming out of HS and went directly to Division I, no JUCO
