Thanks for your interest; I'll keep a list of those who wish to be on the committee and contact you when we start to need input on decisions, such as the criteria.
TigerPawMom did some initial research and learned that we need to avoid basing the criteria on baseball accomplishments. That way the scholarship, when awarded, will not count against the winner's school's 11.7 baseball scholarships. She also suggested that we consider a writing contest, and I concur. We might invite students to submit essays on qualities that relate our honoree, Bob: (1) love of the game (they could write about their own love of the game, or an inspiring example they have observed), (2) ethics and integrity, (3) community service or teamwork, giving back, etc.
TPM is also checking with the NCAA to see if there are any other rules and regulations we need to be careful of. Thanks, TPM!

MN-Mom: I also think grades should play a part of this somehow You know me always looking at grades.. Also possibly a letter of recommendation from someone NOT baseball related to their life who can attest to the players other outstanding qualities. Count us in for a donation or two. Anything to honor Bob and an outstanding young man works for me!

Ditto for me. To set it up, it would help if someone already has a tax-exempt baseball organization, with an IRS ruling, to which funds could be given, designated for the Big Bob Scholarship. As long as the criterion for selection don't discriminate because of race, religion, color, ***, etc., should be smooth as silk. Perhaps select a panel of old timers to make the choice, based upon applications giving the normal info, and also a statement as to why s****r stinks...just kidding, maybe a statement as to why they play, along with a couple references.
