On Thursday, April 14th, at 6:00, Farragut and Oak Ridge are going to turn back the clocks! Both teams will wear "old-time" uniforms with short-brimmed hats, jerseys with the names runnning down the button lines, and baggy pants. They plan to use wooden bats; hot dogs will cost 25 cents, soft drinks will be 50 cents, and peanuts will cost a dime; the PA guys are hunting down appropriate music...

It should be a great time to let everyone see what it looked and felt like back in the 20's and 30's when baseball truly was America's past-time! Bring your family and have some fun at the ol' ball game!

DugoutDad,
I leave tomorrow for my semi-annual pilgrimage to North Carolina and will miss the game. I hope there is a huge crowd and everyone has a great time. This may be one of those games where everyone has fun. Can we have the skybox crew run out and hang up the score?biglaugh

I s'pect we'll still use that newfangled, electronical scoreboard, but one might see your favorite Skybox PA guy in period costume!! Plus, we've got some great period music -- Big Bands, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, etc. Probably a little Harry Carey, too, on "Take Me Out To the Ballgame!!"

Dugout, I just came up for air and saw Hozr's post at CoachT. I told him the event sounds like a lot of fun. It's too bad you couldn't have scheduled the game for next week when some of us "Working Folks" would have free time to attend. Roll Eyes

Biz,
I'm just hoping the rain will stop soon enough to let us play tomorrow night!! At this point, it might be good to scout for gopher wood... The early plan if rained out tomorrow, is to make it up on Sunday afternoon. (That would be bad for me -- I can't make Sunday. I might have to get SoupKitchen to sub for me in the SkyBox ;>Wink )

I think Hozr's trying to get some pictures made. Maybe we can post on CoachT or somewhere on here somehow.

I'm going to enjoy my first "unfettered" weekend hopefully under sunny skies at Milligan College, TN.

If the game ends up next week, I'll try to attend. Also, I'm tentatively planning to make the Farragut-South Doyle game later in the month.

Posted per Hozr's request: As of 8:30 AM we're thinking the field will be playable tonight. We certainly hope so because this idea seems to have been well received. Cross your fingers for us and hope for a high sun and light breezes to dry out the field. It should be a fun time if we can get it in. If not today, we'll probably do it this weekend, but we'll cross that bridge only if we have to!

Biz:
Enjoy what looks like to be a terrific weekend for baseball up in Johnson City & Elizabethton. Say Hi to Adam for me!!

Will do. Looks like mother nature is going to cooperate nicely for the next few days.

Probably won't make the Farragut game tonight. Hope you guys have a great turnout.

We indeed had a great turnout for last night's Turn Back the Clock night. I'm not sure about the attendance total -- but if selling almost 500 hotdogs is an indicator -- it was quite a crowd. Both teams looked great -- Farragut in gray, with "Farragut" down the button placket, knee length baseball pants, navy socks, pinstriped, shortbilled hats. Oak Ridge's uniforms were gray, with a large block "OR" on the shirts, pinstriped hats, crimson socks. Using the wooden bats made a bit of difference -- although OR took advantage of a potential inning-ending DP to hit a grandslam HR. OR hit another HR in T7th to extend their lead, and went on to win 7-4. The OR pitcher settled down over the last 4 innings, limited FHS to 2 hits over that stretch.

It was bizarro world in district 4 last night:

Farragut loses to a district 3 team (Oak Ridge) for the first time in awhile. Think Tommy might "retire" those uniforms for awhile?

Bearden wins a slugfest agains McClain and South Doyle.

Catholic destroys West.
