Anyone can tell me about the school (academic and baseball)?

What kind of team they have and what is the average speed of the pitchers in the conference?

thanks

Are you talking about Union College in Kentucky?

Union(KY) has developed a very good program under Coach Osborne. They made the NAIA Super-Regionals last year and Coach Osborne had put together a team in the fall that he thought could challenge for a berth in the NAIA World Series.

Three key position players didn't make it to the spring. One signed a pro contract at the end of the summer, and two were academic casualties.

Union had also put together a strong pitching staff, led by Marty Popham (who's had a fantastic year). In addition to Popham, there were three other pitchers who threw in the 90 mph range, a left-handed starter who throws mid-80s, plus a number of quality relief pitchers. However a couple of the pitchers developed arm trouble. One has been on the shelf for a good part of the season, another projected starter tore his labrum in January.

Despite all that, Union is still tied for 2nd in the league, and split with top 10 Tennessee Wesleyan.

The Union campus and faculty are very supportive of the athletes on campus. That's not the case at some schools.

Union runs its athletics similar to larger schools.

Union competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. About 1/2 the teams in the league are competitive in any given year. Tennessee Wesleyan has been a perennial top 10 program. There are some quality pitchers at several schools. Many of the schools, however, lack sufficient pitching depth to go deep into post season.

Union is a small liberal arts school in Jackson, TN. They recently had a tornado hit the heart of their campus but they are already building back the university and it will be very nice. The baseball team is ok but they play in the difficult trans south conference and have to battle with Cumberland every season.
