My son is going to Nashville in the summer to play in the Sandlot league. He and several teammates. They don't provide host housing. My own son could technically travel down a couple times a week, but wants to live there. I do plan on speaking with the gentleman that runs the league - just collecting some preliminary thoughts and suggestions.

Any housing/apt suggestions?

Also, any ideas on summer jobs?

My son's team played in that league summer before last, but we commuted from Knoxville. It put a lot of miles on the car and resulted in some late nights.

It was good, competitive ball for the most part. Lots of low-scoring games with the wood bats. A few D1 players in the league and lots of small college and juco players.

Thanks Bizazz. I am going to contact him - thought I'd wait until first of the year. I've spoken with a couple of folks familiar with the league. It appears that many of the kids that play there are from the TN area. I'm excited that I'll be close enough to go on weekends and hopefully we'll find some good solutions to the housing/work situations.

Do you mind tellling me if your son worked during summer ball? And how many hours averaged. From what I understand, Sandlott doesn't play an extremely heavy schedule.

Mom, getting my son to "work" is another matter. He thinks development of his baseball skills is "work" LOL.

Seriously, he was able to work around the schedule. There was usually one mid-week game and one weekend game. The mid-week games usually started around 7 central so we would leave Knoxville mid-afternoon. The worst part was getting back to Knoxville between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. I always stopped just outside of Nashville on the way home and got a big cup of there "high test" coffee and some munchie food. Wasn't the healthiest of things, but it kept me awake.

The other thing we had to worry about was weather. I think we dodged thunderstorms during the mid-week games for the most part. We ended getting to Nashville on two Sunday afternoons where the sky opened up and we had to turn around and head home.

I remember there was one team in particular that had quite a few players staying in homes. I'm sure this is something Mickey can fill you in on.

How did your Fall go?

Bizazz - Fall went well. Son got lots of playing time early on, not so much in the end. I've tried to not analyze what that means as my kids tell me that I analyze too much in general!

JUCO has been a wonderful experience so far as grades have been very good and my son, who hadn't pitch for a few years up until this past spring, is developing very nicely in that area. So it appears for him, JUCO is doing exactly what we had hoped. I'm thankful and looking forward to spring!

I don't want son to work his tail off in the summer - I truly believe they need some down time, but enough for his spending and gas money will help out mom's budget tremendously!
