Things aren't settled as I write this, but apparently Oak Ridge had a pitcher who inadvertently exceeded the consecutive-day max on innings pitched.

Unfortunately for Oak Ridge, this pitcher had helped Oak Ridge to a 4-2 upset of Knox Halls. The Hall's coach (doing his job) recognized the fact that the pitcher had exceeded the 10 innings and filed a protest.

It is unfortunate that a victory on the field is overturned, but the rules are what they are. What is sometimes confusing is that an "appearance" in an inning counts as one inning for purposes of the rule. The pitcher doesn't have to record 3 outs to constitute a full inning as I understand it.

There's supposed to be definitive word from the TSSAA today. If the forfeit is awarded, then Oak Ridge is eliminated from the tournament.

It's been posted on another site that the protest has been upheld. Halls wins by forfeit.

Sullivan North won the AAA State Championship in either '84 or '85 the same way when Nashville McGavock used a pitcher too many innings.
