DELMONICO RECEIVES CONTRACT EXTENSION THROUGH 2010
Delmonico Holds A Career Record Of 643-347

Nov. 2, 2005

After guiding the Volunteers to the NCAA College World Series for the third time in his 16-year tenure, Tennessee head baseball coach Rod Delmonico was rewarded by UT athletics director Mike Hamilton with a contract extension this week. Delmonico's new contract runs through the 2010 baseball season.

The total contract calls for $190,000 annually, which is broken down into a base salary of $120,000 annually, $40,000 for involvement with radio and television and $30,000 for equipment, shoe and apparel contracts. His previous contract paid $170,000 annually.

The new contract includes incentives that incorporate base salary and future extensions dependent primarily upon Southeastern Conference and NCAA tournament appearances and performances.

"I'm proud of the accomplishments of Rod Delmonico, his staff and the baseball team during the 2005 season," Hamilton said. "Tennessee appeared in its third College World Series and has earned NCAA tournament berths eight times under Rod's leadership. We evaluate our program based on its competitiveness on and off the field and its success in postseason play."

Delmonico, 47, has led Tennessee to eight NCAA appearances since taking over the program prior to the 1990 season. He is the winningest baseball coach in UT history, boasting a career record of 643-347 (.649). Under his direction, the Vols have won at least 40 games nine times and have reached the 50-win mark twice.

This past June, Vols Eli Iorg and Luke Hochevar were selected in the first round of the MLB draft, bringing Delmonico's total number of first-round picks at Tennessee to six. In addition, Delmonico has coached 87 Vols who were drafted or signed professional baseball contracts.

Delmonico is tied for fifth place on the Southeastern Conference's all-time coaching wins list.

I had wished that Rod might have gotten a sweeter deal like the ND football coach. Cool

I'll settle this dispute since I don't have a dog in the hunt. The best coach in Tennessee is Corbin at Vandy and the best coach in Alabama is Tom Slater at Auburn.

I read where someone said: "Success does not follow Coach Corbin, it arrives at exactly the same time."

One day, I envision a time when the temporal leader of Jackson, Tennessee will welcome pilgrims from all over the world to share in the secrets of his visions. In a way that only the Dalai Lama could understand, they will come….

Fungo…I see and understand. Wink
