That's great.........unfortunately, I do not foresee them doing much this season. Their depth is not that good on the mound and some rumors are circulating about the future of the coaching staff. I hope they have success because there is no excuse why they shouldnt be at the top of a weaker OVC. Best of Luck.

Two wins against the Missouri Valley is a step in the right direction. I can see the coaching staff being on the hot seat after last year. Some of the things have nothing to do with baseball and that's a shame. I would also question the Athletic depts. support. Also don't forget that UT-Martin is one of the smallest schools competing in D-1 baseball. But a 3 and 2 start seems to be a step in the right direction. The pitching is a big question but the offense is averaging 7.4 RPG. Good luck to the Skyhawks...

Most baseball people in the OVC are reporting that UT Martin will make a change at the end of the season. I don't know if the university funds 11.7 scholarships but many people feel that with a full 11.7 baseball scholarships UT Martin could dominate the OVC. If the university would support this program it could be a true sleeping giant in the near future.

That does qualify as a blowout Flamethrower.I saw Martin play once this year and I thought they looked better than in years past at the plate . Pitching was another story . Off speed everything the game I saw .

#1 and #2 pitchers are pretty good. After that the pitching is suspect at best. The game you are talking about was on Saturday, game three of a three game series. UT-Martin had won the second game of the series 13-3 and broke a 14 game winning streak by EIU. (at the time the nations longest)UTM started a guy that had only started one game. Needless to say things got out of hand quickly. EIU was up 16-2 after two and a half innings. UTM used the lopsided score to get there reserves in the game. EIU played there starters the whole game. I would guess to pad their stats and rub a little salt into the team that had beaten them the night before. In my opinion there coach is classless. I understand that UTM's pitching must get better but come on get your reserves some playing time. I can only hope that coach Cates will go out and get better arms and that the guys on the team use this as motivation in the upcoming years.

I read that UT Martin has fired the Head Mens Basketball coach and womens head coach also(resigned/fired) . Just wondering if there is any word about a baseball coaching change there ?

I spoke last week with a former player (2 years removed) and a parent. Both of these people claim that the University of Tennessee @ Martin needs to make a coaching change with the baseball program but that no change will be made. These people informed me that the head coach is a teacher in the math department and the athletic department has to contribute very little to his salary. This sounds like the university is doing their best to spend as little money as possible & it could be that the university does not have any funds to spend on baseball.

Thanks for the info CBG.I was sure hoping they would make a change.I think there would be several kids from the West Tennessee area and beyond interested in the program if they were to make a change.

I graduated from UT Martin in 1990 and would love to see them get things going. Unfortunately the Rodeo team has a lot more support than the sports program there.

Change is needed. Not only in Baseball but the AD needs to go also. They need to bring in someone that is interested in winning, gives his coaches the resources to win and then holds them accountable.

They could be like their conference partner, SEMO, and hire a basketball coach who has a career record of 2 over .500. This is out of over 100 applicants including some "big names" who some really were! Oh, let's not even bring him to campus for an interview with the AD!!!!

I feel your pain,Bulldog!! I do think the Skyhawks would be happy to take that 2 over .500 record over the last 11 years. Two 20 win seasons just won't get it done.
