in a game i was umping- 7th grade- the field we were on wasnt the greatest. as many plates do, home plate was above the ground, all the black exposed.
one batter attempted to bunt, the bunt ricocheted off the black, protruding part of the plate and hit him as he was leaving the box (he was still partially in, if that affects anything) and hit him in the leg.
honestly, i didnt know what to call, so i just called it foul.
the opposing coach suggested, actually ranted, that the batter/runner was out because he was attempting to go to first and the ball hit him.
what is the call?
The butt... it talks...

To our military men, women and families - You are all awesome - that flag is yours and I thank you for the opportunity for giving me the honor of removing my cap prior to every baseball game I see.

If he was in the box an it hit him, foul ball, if the ball was in the box and he had one foot out and one foot in, and the ball hit him, foul ball. Only an out if he and the ball were both in fair territory when the ball hit him. I think
I may have been confusing in my last post. I realize that home plate and the batters boxes are considered fair territory, what I should have said was if he was still in the box when the ball hit him it would be foul. The only question would be, if one foot was in the box and one foot was out, would he be out??? Not sure but I think if any part of him is still in the box when the ball hits him, it's a foul ball.
