1. When the ball is pitched on third strike, batter swings at a ball that bounces into catchers mitt. Is the batter out or does he have to be tagged or thrown out?

2. Pitcher comes set in the stretch, opposing coach says he is balking because he is spinning the ball in his glove. Is that a balk?

1. That's not a caught pitch. The batter is not out (unless 1st is occupied with less than 2 out).

2. As long as his hand stays in the glove, that is not a balk.

1. Must be tagged or thrown out at 1st. A pitch that hits the dirt can not be a caught 3rd strike.

2. No balk, unless he's doing something more with other parts of his body. Just adjusting the grip is fine, as long as he's not separating the hands he should be fine.

The spinning of the ball is a common occurance that coaches complain about all the time. If don't allow a pitcher to adjust the ball then you would know what is throwing every time. Unless he is doing something strange to get a grip, leave it alone.
