I'm sorry, but the combination of the content of critter's posts and his consistent, inconsistent errors, which are a sign of intentional writing errors, convinces me that he is a troll.

i don't know critterump, (or really understand the name) Big Grin
but i think he is a young guy looking to learn. according to some other post he has problems writing his thoughts.

critter

i think your either from rochester or dover? are you a patched ump?

If it's true that we're all here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

20dad, thanks for picking that up also.

I think critterump is a fine young man on here trying to find a way to help himself. How he communicates on here is not important but that he has the courage to come here and seek assistance is admirable.

I hope that he finds himself back here so we can help point him in the right direction.

20dad, youngundad:

As one whose career involved identifying disabilities and disorders, working with DI populations and instructing others in those disciplines at the college level, I sincerely believe that if there really is a disorder here, it is most likely factitious disorder, not dyslexia.

Jimmy,

While I'm not in any position career wise to argue with anyone on disorders, disabilities, etc, I will say that on this example I sincerely don't believe that critter is acting or feigning this.

I am a Moderator on another baseball sight and there is a young man who everyone has come to love and appreciate and he also writes this same way. He has for years.

I've been proven wrong many, many times before but this time I just can't see why anyone would pretend or fake this. It's too hard to be consistent.

That's exactly my point. Those who know what to observe can see that he isn't.

And to quote Forest Gump:

Jimmy if you truly feel like i am a troll. than why do you bother to feed the troll if i am one?

Please guys stay on topic. You can think what you what jimmy but i know what i am and that all that matters to me.

Jimmy03 -Jimmy if you from college level than you should know that you should never judge a book by its cover. Your doing this right now. and Schools and teachers have been wrong in high school, college, etc...

So like i said before i don't care really what you want to think of me. But if i am a troll. Your the one who is "feeding me" which if you knew what trolls do you would not replay to them in "thread"

I am harmless 22 year old male doing Baberuth asking questions. I am going by what my parents said i had. I do not understand grammar or spelling.

You can come down here anytime and ask my old high school english teacher how i am.

Or you can come see me in chat am acutally better in chat most of the times.chatting than on a message board.

plenty of user have pointed this out. Note: not on here.

Well critter why don't you just call the assigner on the phone or take him out to McDonalds for a cup of coffee and take your calendar with you and tell him all the dates you are willing to work.

OK, critter, Ive been thinking about this for a while and wanted to give some careful thought to the answers I'm going to give...

Only your assignor knows for sure why you arent being called, but.....here is my take...

If there are games being assigned and you are not being called to do them then there is a reason. The reasons may or may not be justifiable, but that really doesnt matter does it?.....the fact is you arent getting assigned...

This is not a new problem in the umpiring world, nor is it an unusual issue with assignors...

The first thing I want you to do is analyze what your assignors situation is...then we can move on to other factors...

Are there more umpires available than there are games to assign? (example 30 umpires, 10 games per weekend means the assignor needs 20 umpires...it also means 10 umpires dont work)

Is there a seniority (formal or informal)system in place with your association? (In other words is there a pecking order in place....and what is your place in it)

Are there requirements for the league that is needing umpires that you do not have? (One league I do requires all umpires to be registered HS officials....this eliminates 75% of the rec league umpires of my chapter)

If any of those answers are yes, you have a portion of your answer.....

If all of those answers are no, then you need to move on to this next portion.....and its all about you as an umpire....

Assignors need 3 things.....Availability, Dependability....and Ability,.....

You will notice that I put ability last....in low level youth ball (7-12) many times just getting someone availible and can be dependable will trump actual ability....

Assignors need to cover the games, know you will show up and be reasonably proficient....to that end...

Do you have limited availablity?.....(are you able to work the games)

Have you had any dependability issues? (have you no showed or turned back many games)

Do you have a poor reputation in regards to your ability as an umpire? (In past posts you have alluded to struggling with some basic umpire mechanics and rules....)

Yes answers to any of these are another part of your overall answer as to why you are not getting games.....

This last part is all about you....

Have you had any personal or performance issues with the league or its officials? (assignors have a client to service and make happy... the league...if you have any past issues with the leagues, they could be asking for you NOT to be assigned)

Have you had any personality conflict or performance issues with the assignor?....(Assignors are human, if you are difficult to manage, many will just pass you over. Life is tough enough for them without having a "problem child" to deal with..)

Are you the least skilled umpire in your association?....(be brutally honest in your assessement here........I know you want to get better or you wouldnt be asking, but if you are the least skilled, an assignor may not want to worry about whether or not you will be able to do the job)

ok, answers to these questions will let you know where the majority of your problem lies...

SO, what do you do about it.....

well, stop emailing the Assignor....go see him...show up at the field, pull him aside and ASK HIM HOW you can get assigned in the future.....DO NOT ask him WHY am I not getting assigned....you want a fresh start with this guy......

Hope this helps.....good luck....

wooo long post clever-man2.gif some of what you said i was thinking he was giving other umpires a chance to umpire in fall. Since i did it last year so he was trying to be fair.

I do know some leagues told me they didn't want me to umpire but the problem right there and my partners never told what i was doing wrong. So i fix it this year and a hs umpire said i did a good job.

with other umpires helping me improve so i got more behind plate games late in season and he gave me a chance. So yea there some yes and no into the bold parts. i did hs fall ball and calripken fall ball last year.

So i know i am all set for those. i had 50+ games there were some i didn't think i be able to make in time and told him. woo me not showing up for games is like me not going to see my dogs. I love it too much.

One of the leagues were not happen with my strike zone and didn't want me to work but we fix it and the coach's were better and please. the assigner is nice good guy first time i seen him was actually doing a br game. skilled enough for him to be using me still.

50+ games and sent me a gift card to dick sporting goods $10.00

CALL HIM. There is no need to guess why or what is happening. By your own admission writing is not easy for you so call him. Also talk to him about attending a clinic. Clinics will only improve you, remember the addage,"If you aren't improving you are declining." Nobody stays stagnant in their abilities.

Critter,

You have received some very good and informative advise from PIAA and Michael.

I hope that you will heed this advise and move forward in getting assigned for upcoming games.

Good luck!
