Strange play,

2 outs; runner on 3rd, on the 3rd strike the ball goes to the back stop (large area) The runner on 3rd is very fast and makes it home before the ball is retrieved. The batter runner who is very slow gets put out at first base.

Does this run score? Can this be looked at like a time play? Or is this looked at like a force?

No run. Anytime the batter doesn't make first safely for thr third out, the run doesn't count. A buddy had a play the other day where the R3 stole home and made before the pitch but the pitch was strike three. No run but it took some discussion to get it right.

ump6132,
To amplify MST's comment, a runner stealing from third can score if he crosses the plate before the pitcher begins his pitching motion.

Once the pitcher is committed to pitch, any steal is considered to be part of the action in which the batter/runner is put out.

By rule, it is neither. That's why the rule regarding how a run scores includes a special mention.

"One run shall be scored each time a runner legally advances to and touches first, second, third and home base before three men are put out to end the inning. EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home base during a play in which the third out is made (1) by the batter-runner before he touches first base; (2) by any runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who is declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases.
