Our first base coach was wearing a red ussa baseball wind breaker the other night at my son's game. The umpires were wearing their black fall colors, when some other softball umpire in red, told him to take off that jacket...he told him "NO". First of all he didn't know this guy from Adam, secondly he was officiating the boy's baseball game and thirdly it is a free country. Seemed like this softball umpire took his position a little too far, what's your guy's opinion?

Was the softball umpire on the game? If not he has no standing. If he was then if you have a rule that says the coach has to be in uniform then he may have a point. If he is on the game but you have no such rule then he has nothing to say about it.
if this softball umpire is not assigned to the game, he should mind his own business....he is being OOO...you have no standing in a game you are not assigned to....
Like MST says If he is on the crew and the league has a uniform rule, he can have that power but in my mind he is still being "OOO"...

He wasn't assign to this game or league even. Just finished a game on another field and stopped on his way out. There isn't a league rule on uniforms either.

Then he has nothing to say in your game. If for some reason he wants to say something to the PU if it is something that needs to be taken care of. It doesn't sound like it was any problem but either way it's none of his business to take care of.

Your first base coach is a USSSA umpire? Wearing part of his uni at a game in which USSSA umpires are working?
Was the "other" umpire his assignor or UIC?
If it was me, I'd never wear part of my associations apparel, coaching (nor playing), in a game in which that association is working.
Just doen't look right, especially if your the visiting team, undefeated, and came from the next state.
Might just put a little unneeded "extra pressure" on the crew working?

I didn't read it as the coach was wearing an USSSA umpire jacket, just an USSSA jacket. They sell jackets that have the logos on them and some even have systems that play USSSA like ECTP in PA. Even he was wearing an umpire jacket, although not good form, the softball guy still has no standing in interject himself into a game he osn't officiating.
