I will be there with my son in beautiful (but fire-scarred) Malibu right after Christmas. Anyone else going?

When we get a little closer I'll send a PM to let you know how to identify me and my son at the camp. I have the week off from work so I'll probably hang around the camp most of the time it is going. Unfortunately, since I was on my way from work to school elsewhere when passing by Pepperdine I only had time to eat at fast food places nearby so I can't help much on that front.

Sounds good, CADad. Maybe we can e-mail coach Hirt and see if he'll put our sons on the same team.

Krak: Jeff will happily catch Tristan anytime!

There's not that many Hotels around Pepperdine campus.
You need to stay in Calabases about 10 miles away.
Then you drive thru the Burned Malibu Canyon to the campus.

If you never driven the canyon its an awesome ride.
The Rock formations are really visible now.
It's a geological smorgasboard.

Have Fun.

Bummer... we just got back from the doc and it turns out that 2B has osteochondtritis dessicans in his elbow. No baseball for at least 3 months. So we won't be there after all. In the grand scheme of things, it's not the end of the world. But we are devastated. We can still enjoy the geological smorgasboard, though. Smile

We hope you guys have fun, and we are sorry that we'll miss seeing your boys play!

2Bmom,
Sorry to hear about that. Follow the doctor's advice. You'll also want to talk to the doctor to see if there's anything he can do to keep his shoulder in shape without putting the elbow healing at risk. Make sure he works into it gradually when he starts throwing again.

Thank you, CADad. That is a great idea. We were really blindsided by this - we thought it was something minor. So when we heard "3 months...maybe surgery" all we could think was that tryouts are January 14. And with the disappointment the questions in my head just evaporated. I will follow up with the doc today. Time to move forward!

Thank you, Rob. MRI is tomorrow, and we'll know next week if he has to have surgery. The coaches are supportive, so if he has to try out on just taking grounders, running bases, and doing top hand hitting drills, he'll do it!

So you guys have fun! I think we're going to drive up and see the Sequoias while you're at Pepperdine.

My son will be going to Jaeger's Long Toss in Woodland Hills instead of the Malibu Pepperdine camp

I might see you there for a moment. My son needs a new set of bands so I might try to stop by on the way back to Pepperdine from dropping the rest of the family off at the Burbank airport.

Got to meet Rob and his son. Good people. Jeff is a good catcher and hitter and I don't think I've seen anyone enjoy the game more than he does.

I'm sorry we missed y'all. It is a bummer to be back at work! Razz

We drove up to Sequoia National Park one week ago today. It was absolutely spectacular. We've never before seen snow that deep, and the trees were beyond magnificent. The winter is definitely the time to see the Giant Sequoias. The snow made it almost surreal.

2B was bummed that he couldn't be at Pepperdine, but we still have memories that will last forever. Plus there was a baseball field behind our hotel in Visalia that provided the perfect spot for his daily dose of infield! He isn't throwing right now, but he still loves to take those grounders (and the elbow is probably going to be fine in time for tryouts). Anyway, I definitely recommend a trip to Sequoia National Park to anyone out there who appreciates nature. It was well worth the effort. We hope to be back at Pepperdine some time in the next four years.

If you are still in Visalia, you should continue north on Hwy 41 and go into Yosemite! It is also very beautiful at this time of the year with snow.

We'd love to see Yosemite! It is definitely on our to see list. And we would also like to see the Visalia Oaks play someday. We'll be back in CA before too long. But we're back in Florida now where everyone in G'ville is f-f-freeezing - it got down to 27 last night - and only getting up to 50 today! Eek Big Grin
