KD - how did son earn his invite? I hear this is a tough camp to get into. You will fall in love with the area - beautiful campus. Natural-son is a sophomore this year - hopes to get to go to this camp next year.

KellerDad,

My son, a 2007, will be attending the Stanford Camp. Got his confirm a couple of weeks ago. I'll be making the trip with him and am probably looking forward to this as much as he is. I look forward to meeting any websters who will be there and as the date gets closer the dad's should plan on having dinner one evening. Spring can't arrive soon enough for me.

Natural -
Suggest you contact the Stanford Baseball office at 650-723-4528. There isn't an online registration. The camp is by invitation only, so your son will need to get on their recruiting "radar" to receive an invitation for next year. Smile

atl bjs,

If you can afford the expense, by all means you should attend this camp. At the time my son called it the best baseball experience he had ever had. Not to mention all of the top notch schools that are working & scouting this event.

Thanks RHP05... ironically, an invite (camp brochure) arrived in our mail today. It must be because son attended a Stanford pitching clinic here in Dallas in December '04 and got on real well with Coach K. At this date on the calendar I am wondering if this is worth chasing if confirmation letters are already sent out? Opinions?

Natural,
Yes, never too late to get your son's name on the list if he is interested! Their goal is to get the best players to the All-Star camp, so invitations continue to go out at various times as they balance the numbers for each position and they hear about new players they may want to see. You really never know where the spaces will become available as players drop out for various reasons. So act quickly. Smile IMO you should respond regardless! If it doesn't work out for your son this year, let them know you would definitely like to be on next year's list and give them a summer baseball schedule where they can see him play this year. Cool

My son,an 07 RHP from NW Indiana, just received his invite and we're trying to figure out a way to swing it with the full tournament slate his summer program has committed to.He's had some emails with Coach Stotz and has a genuine interest in the school so now we have to come up with the finances for what is already looking like an expensive summer

Rick K,

My son, also a 2007, has a full summer travel committment as does your son. Our coach is encouraging 3-4 boys to miss a tournament during the summer for the express purpose of attending a College Camp, Showcase Event or another college related activity. Getting seen and working hard at a camp like Stanford, or a camp at another school your son may be interested in attending is, in my opinion, just as important and maybe more so, than being with his summer team each and every week. I believe that we're going to miss the Indy Bulls Tournament but I doubt that there will be head coaches from 25-30 top schools there, as there will be at Stanford. JMO.

Dear Natural
My son was recommendeed by the assistant Harvard coach and Bob Williams of the Goodwill Series and the founder of the Area Code Games. Coach Stotz emailed him and asked him to forward his transcript to him also. What I found amazing about Stanford is that they had 127 players drafted from Stanford bur only half those players were drafted when in high school. That probably means that Stanford develops draftable players and/or that MLB does not waste their draft pick on kids that are going to Stanford because there is such an upside to playing and studying at Stanford.
My son is only going to the Stanford camp and not Best in Virgina(BIV).BIV was a great camp and was extremely well run but his schedule is busy this summer. The Stanford camp will have the Ivy league schools in attendace or watching. He just back from the U of Penn camp and found out that the assistant coach will be coach at the Stanford camp.I may go out to the camp at the end
to visit because I love the area.I never understand why kids on the east have a choice between
Harvard vs Stanford why they pick the Stanford of the East.
Best Wishes

My son is also a 2007, and the Stanford camp is/has been an integral part of his planning for the Jr.-Sr. summer. He has received the email confirmation, and we are very much looking forward to attending.

Stanford is my son's #2 choice, close behind his number one choice of Army. The coaches at West Point told my son last year to do everything possible to make it to the Stanford Camp. The reason they were so adamant is that they want to be able to evaluate a player against high level competition.

I, for one, am really looking forward to being there. Not only will I get to watch my son, which is my favorite way to spend my time, but also will have the chance to watch a bunch of very high level baseball players from all over the country. Being out in "the sticks", we don't have a lot of opportunity to see high level baseball.

I'm looking forward to meeting some of the other websters while there.

OK, getting closer to the date. I'm confirmed as going, bringing the wife and the younger kid to make it a family vacation.

She'll probably head to the wine country while I watch ball. Big Grin
