What is the timeframe and what are the procedures for early signing? If my guy is approached and indications are made that a program would like to sign him, can the LOI arrive before the signing period?

I can't remember how any of this stuff works, LOL!

Will a discussion preceed a LOI discussing what the offer will be, and when can it officially be made?

The early signing period is right around the corner.
The intent letter has to include the scholarship amount and can arrive a few days before the official signing time begins.
The offer should have been discussed prior, and only upon verbal acceptance will they send a NLI.
On the other hand, this is only the early signing period another to follow in April.
As far as I know no NLI is signed other than during those two periods.

From what I have seen, the player and coaches agree on the terms, the LOI is drafted by the athletic department and over nighted to the player just before the NLI period.

The player signs the documents, faxes it back to the school, and then over nights the originals to the school and keeping copies.

I think that they usually sign around January after the D1, D2 recruiting season slows down.
