Can D3 schools put on baseball camps for players that are not enrolled students as part of their recruiting process?

The D3 college my son played for a few years ago did hold baseball camps. In the summer they hosted camps which targeted the younger players up through HS age. The coaches were looking to identify prospects among the HS players, although certainly they did not recruit the majority of players who attended the camps.

In the winter I don't think they held a camp because we're in snowy Minnesota and they didn't have an indoor facility which could host games, but the coaches worked at the camp of another area college, so they were still seeing prospects.

Are there some specific D3 schools you are interested in?

We are looking at schools in the North Texas area. I have seen that JUCOs and D1 schools are putting on camps in the Fall to look at HS seniors but I have not seen any information on D3 websites so that made me wonder if they are restricted as far as what they can do to recruit in the Fall.

I'm curious, if there are no scholarships for D3 schools, what do they have to offer to recruits?

It seems to me sometimes around parents looking for scholarships they forget the bottom line is to really get an education.

and admission for many hard-to-get-into DIIIs.

DIII schools are prohibited from offering "athletic" scholarships, but the coaches do have money set aside to pay for some books and tuition. most of the DIII's are private and more expensive to attend so they have a lot of academic money to give out. they don't expect you to pay full price and are more than willing to help you find some money. through academic money and grants you can attend a DIII for about the same price as a state school and the campus and roster sizes are usually smaller which gives you a better chance to play right away.

A D3 school just sent an invite to their winter camp, but there's nothing on their web page, so I guess they find a way to do what they can.

I just read your Thread "but the coaches do have money set aside to pay for some books and tuition." I just want to clarify for readers. I'm thinking you meant Schools have money set aside. Coaches are prohibited from being involved in the "money" process. All DIII schools go through an audit each season to ensure that schools are treating athletes the same as students when it comes to money. This changed about 5 or so years ago.

Couldn't have said it better, for some reason parents forget that only 2% of HS players play at a pro level. The other 98% need the education.
