My son (2007 grad) attended a prospect camp and a week or so later received a general letter from the coach describing the school's program and their fall schedule. Also included was a "player recommendation form" that has a section for personal and academic information that, I assume, the player completes, and a section for his coach to complete (stats like batting average, pop time and a subjective evaluation part).
What's the accepted procedure to get this form completd and into the college coach's hands. Should my son complete his part and hand the form and an addressed envelope to his HS or legion coach to finish and mail? One HS coach I spoke to said he prefers to finish the form and return it to the player to send himself.
My son has a more complete bio and introduction letter he's ready to send. Should he try to enclose the recommendation form in his packet or tell the coach to expect it to come by itself?
I apologize if this has been asked 100 times before. Thanks to all.

Welcome to the web site! Everyone will probably have different answers for you based upon their own experience. As far as my son went, we had the coach complete the section and return it to us. We then returned it with a cover letter, his HS transcript, a copy of his schedule, etc. Only ONE time did the college ask that the coach send it in separately... which he did. Or, I guess he did.

Some posters seem to worry about what their coach might say on their evaluations. We weren't worried about that at all. Some might feel it would hold more credibility if the coach sent it in separately and they certainly could be correct. I was a little worried it might not get done if we didn't do it ourselves.

Welcome and no apologies allowed for asking a question!
We copied the page with the player recommendation form and gave to coach with a filled out stamped envelope. Many of the ones son received were asked to be sent seperately, so he did them all that way.

In the questionaire, son explained that the coach would be sending on his own. Don't know if they ever got there or not. Eek

Welcome to the HSBBW! Smile (I like your screen name!) To ensure the coach actually received a timely response, we also went the copy route. We would complete all but the HS coach's section, make a copy, and returned our portion with a note that the coach's section would be completed separately. The HS coach was then given the copy to complete his section of the questionnaire at his convenience. Smile

Welcome to the site!

We did similar to others, we completed the player portion of the questionnaire and copied it and gave it to the summer or HS coach to complete and either send directly with the pre-addresses stamped envelope or give back to us to mail, as they were working on them, we sent a copy of the player portion with a bio (formatted as HS baseball web site recommended) and included schedules that we had and a copy of an unofficial transcript and indicated that the coaches portion would come separately.
