One of my son's top 3 schools recently contacted the HS coach. HS Coach mentioned that he should watch his phone. Question, at what point in the process does a college coach make this call. I assume there is interest or they wouldn't make the call.

How often do they actually contact the HS coach? My son has a coach that never played. This guy even makes comments about players on other teams that have committed to D1 schools saying they aren't good enough to get that scholarship. Obviously it has been a while since somebody from this school has gone anywhere. I seriously wonder if it might be best to transfer my son. I do know this guy would not help my son.

Rock, Any interest that is shown in your son is a good sign. How good of a sign? The only way to know that is on the day he actually receives an offer. Some coaches always call the HS coach, some do with kids they've never seen wanting additional info and some coaches never call the coach. It just varied greatly depending on the college coach's recruiting process.

rock, there really isn't a "standard process" - everyone has their own methods.
some may never contact the hs coach,
some will contact the hs coach regarding everyone on their A, B, & C lists - many of whom never get activly recruited

baller, there are some great hs coaches & if you have one that's helpfull, that would be a bonus - but not a necessity.
hsbbweb is the necessity

baseball is a small world and the college coach will likely have a pretty good "read" on the hs coach before calling - -
if not, any college coach worth playing for can identify the "unhelpful" hs coach in a few moments of conversation


re transferring: after 8th grade, unless you sell your house & pack up & move to a new school district the ohsaa will take way 1 yr of competition that you can't afford to lose

If I am understanding what you have posted one of the coaches contacted your son's HS coach, indicating to the coach they would call your son, correct?
If that is the impression you got most likely he will call, he might just have to wait for it.

Here is my two cents.

Why not pick up the phone right now and call the college coach (or have your son call him)? Why assume anything when you can get it straight from the horses mouth?

I don't believe in waiting for the phone to ring. You can mention that they have recently inquired about your son so it will automatically give you something to talk about. It will also show enthusiam on your part and it will certainly take some of the suspense out of waiting.

You ought to be able get the number from their website.
