I have been watching college baseball lately and I see a lot of relievers throwing sidearm and topping out at low 80s while overhand guys are high 80s at least. I was wondering how hard would I have to throw as a sidearm pitcher to walk on at a D1 school?

"Practice."-Tiger Woods when asked what he would do after failing to make the cut at the U.S. Open.

"When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stone-cutter hammering away at his rock perhaps 100 times without as much as a crack showing. Yet at the 101st blow, it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before."

That is going to depend on the school. You'd better make certain the coach at the school you're trying to walk on at is willing to use sidearm pitchers who don't throw as hard. Sometimes the sidearmers are pitchers who weren't getting the job done as mid to high 80s overhand or 3/4 pitchers and were encouraged to drop down to try and help the team. However, they made the team in the first place as hard throwers.

I believe there was a relatively soft throwing sidearmer at USF a few years back who walked on and made and stayed on the team through persistence and heart so there is hope but those cases are pretty rare.

Does anyone know about PSU? I am going there regardless, but I just had a dream to take a shot and make it.

Regardless of how hard you throw you already have one thing going for you young man....a Dream!

It all starts with a dream or ideal. What you choose to do with it after that is what matters most!

Good luck!

In that case don't worry about it. All you can do is give it your all and more. Do it and see what happens.

They've been bringing in a lot of JuCo players to turn the program around quickly. Why would you go there regardless? It's a very good school. But there are other options. Are you limited to the cost of PSU?

I am high school graduate I picked PSU as my college choice over some D3 schools for the academics.
