My son(08) was recruited for mid-major D1 team. Now that teams are playing in their touraments we're wondering if they generally allow the whole team to travel or just the 25 man tournament roster.

25 are rostered and allowed in uniform. During season the roster can change, but for post season it is a final roster. Tourney participation may be dfferent according to each conference.

It's up to each coach as to who travels. At sons program the coach often took some who were not on 25 man, but just to travel with the team they had made a contribution during the year (injured players).

Some conferences also set limits ... for instance, my son played in the Big West and the conference limited the travel squad to 25, same as NCAA post-season limits.

Our son's team travelled everyone for post-season. But only 25 could dress. The others were able to be with their teammates at the hotel and cheer for them from the stands. Even some parents of non-dressed players travelled too.

Every school will be different.

Most schools allow the redshirts and non-roster players to go home after school is out to rest before summer school. Then, the 25 roster players will continue on with the rest of the season.
