If the coach is not involved with the camp, I imagine that it would not go over very well. If the coach wants to see your son then you should try and visit him at his school. Then he can talk to you as much as he wants to as long as you are on his campus.

My son had a coach show up at a camp. We lived far away from the schools. The camp was at a DI. We visited the coach at a nearby DIII because the school was a great academic school and had great bb facilities. The DIII just called the DI and asked if he could come by. He offered to help if The DI needed him. I saw the DIII coach when he arrived and the DI welcomed him gladly. Now DI to DI might be different. After the camp the DI pulled son aside and said he had an interest in son and also mentioned that the DIII coach was interested - so didn't seem to mind.
An expert at anything was once a beginner.

A couple of years ago, we talked with a D3 coach that was in the same town as a D2. D2's can have tryouts but D3's can't, and the D3 coach said the D2 coach invites him to come watch the tryouts every year. Like HitaHomer said, D1 to D1 might be different.
