I've played 3B up to my junior year (Freshmen and 2 years of JV). It's now summer ball, and I'm playing on a team with mostly varsity kids..9 varsity players, 1 college kid, and 3 jv kids..and I'm playing a little bit of second. I know baseball so I know the basics of every position, but I struggle turning a double play. I think my footwork's pretty good, but I struggle on the transfer. Any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of the ball better or even suggestions on proper footwork? Thanks.

MI normally has a smaller glove so they can get the ball out smoother/faster. Did you get a glove more specific to a middle infielder glove? This will help.

To develop a good transfer will take some time and probably it is not going to work righ away. I am sure that untill you learn how to have a real good transfer, your throws to first will be weaker and out of line. Something that can help Righ know is the way to step over the base in order to finish the with the proper food ready to throw with all your arm strengh, that way, even your transfer is not that fast, the total time from the infielder to second to first will be almost the same.

I don't if theres much of a trick to do, you have to develop the skill, everytime you throw just work on getting the ball into your throwing hand as fast as possible.

You'll be turning in no time!

Thanks for the help. I think I'm better defensively at second, even though I don't have tremendous range. I just have a little trouble on the double play..I'll work on it though. Too bad I hit like a second basemen.

Being a MIF in college, I will give you some advice that may help you out.

Always square up and face the direction the ball is coming to you. Keep your hands close together, relaxed and in front of you. I prefer fingers pointed out rather than up and try to deflect the ball rather than catch it. Lastly, don't let your hands drop below your waist when making the transfer and throw. Those are some basics. Hope that helps a little. Just keep practicing.

I turned a double play tonight, 5-4-3, and felt much better than I did before. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who offered some help..and if you were wondering, we won 4-3.
