My son plays Middle infield. His HS coach see potential but indicated he needs to work during the summer on transfers and his fielding.

I'll hit him balls but I would like to know of recommended videos for middle infielders.

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely the best MIF video:

Championship Baseball Series: The Double Play & Special Infield Skills by Mark Johnson

Video website

Very well done series, plenty of actual demonstrations. Great teacher.

Thanks Texan!!

I ordered it as well as the High Prcentage Infield Play by Mark Johnson.

Given the source of recommendation, I'm sure it will be a good addition to my baseball library.

Thanks!

Here are the ones we have used religiously in our program:

Jack Leggett (Clemson) 3 DVD Infield Set
Danny Hall (Georgia Tech) 2 VHS Middle Infield Set

Can't say enough about these videos.

Texan told me about this tape and I ordered it and watched it already. It is very good! Coach Johnson puts things very simply and the drills are well demonstrated. Thanks again Texan!!!

Now that I've viewed the videos, I agree the content is good as well as Mark Johnsons teaching ability.

Some good ideas for drills.

if you go to abca .org, you can find videos of past speakers at their convention and coaching clinics. there are numerous that i like regarding infield drills. the speakers are all college infield coaches, some head coaches, and some pro-ball infield instructors. hope that helps

Thanks C_P,

Looks as if there are many to choose from. Is there one in particular you highly recommend?

roll-it-up,

I haven't seen all of them, but i did enjoy tape #3 from san diego in 2003 "Infield Defense" by Van Horn of Arkansas. He's one of the best in regards to infield mechanics.

The Cal and Billy Ripken video is decent from '05, but focus' mainly on how they would play certain hitters (John Olerud sticks out in my mind) with a few good mechanical points. But the rest is interesting, but won't help a player unless they see their opponent numerous times in a season.

I haven't seen "Winning With Infield Play" from Chicago 2006, but hear great things about it.

And one video I will recomend for anyone in the game is "Coaching the Mental Game" by Ken Ravizza from San Diego 2003. Has nothing to do with infield defense, but is a must see.
Ravizza is a sports psychologist at Cal State Fullerton. I coached a few players from their national championship team in the Texas Collegiate League that year, and they said that his book, "Heads Up Baseball" as well as his numerous visits with the team, helped them recover from a 3-13? (don't quote me on that exact record, but it was bad) start to winning the world series. I recommend that book to all players, coaches, and fans of the game.

hope this helps.

The championship production infield videos by the William & Mary head coach are also very good. Leggett is real good too!

Mark Johnson is now the head coach at Sam Houston State University (took them to their first NCAA tourney appearance in his first year there, BTW). You could email him at SHSU.

These were both available at Championship Productions. But, I know they have clearanced out a lot of their old VHS videos, so they may be all gone now unless they put them on DVD.

Here is a link to one site that still has the Hall tapes:
