Wife doubts Doug Flutie is tall enough to get her mixing bowl down from the top shelf
A week into his retirement from football, Doug Flutie is facing the same sort of doubters who plagued throughout his playing career. Most notably, his wife, Cheryl.
“It’s great to have Doug around the house all the time, but a guy of his size really isn’t much of a help,” she said. “He just wasn’t blessed with all of the physical tools required to be a useful, handy kind of guy around the house.”
Flutie said he wasn’t even given a chance by his wife to get down her mixing bowl from the top shelf of the kitchen pantry yesterday when she needed it to bake a cake.
“I’m sitting there at the kitchen table reading the paper, and she asks my daughter’s boyfriend – some young, 6-foot-4 guy – to get her bowl down,” said Flutie. “I’m used to that kind of stuff in football, but I thought I had proven myself and that I wouldn’t have to deal with it at home. I told her: ‘Jeez, I could have done that. And much faster. Just give me a chance to show what I can do. Sure, I may not look tall, but I’m resourceful. I can get a stepstool or something like that.’”
Cheryl Flutie promised she will go to her husband next time she needs something off the top shelf if her daughter’s boyfriend is not available.

Wow! Rough retirement. Nothing like having your wife questioning your physical tools...
