We will mostly agree about baseball.

We will have many disagreements about politics. Its better left off this site.

Either way, we can all agree we live in a great country. E-nuff said. Smile

I think we do mostly agree about baseball and also appreciate the privilege of being able to express our opinions about baseball or anything else. I just find it odd that, with all the open and sometimes very detailed discussions about baseball that people are mum about such a historic event.

I would also love for us to be able to have discussions about what we agree upon rather than focusing on our disagreements.

There are other forums to discuss politics.

Sorry to intrude in this very nonpolitical forum. I'll try to refocus on the more palatable discussions about the wonders of travel teams, college recruiting, minor league baseball, American Idol, and karma points. Smile

I'll toss my opinion into the ring, for what it's worth.

Personally, I do not object to the occasional discussion about politics or other "off-topic topics" in our forums. However, I understand why some long-time members are cautious or hesitant to encourage those discussions: Because it seems like they fairly often turn negative and even nasty. And this is, after all, a baseball website.

However, since this is indeed an historic election, I'll take a chance and say:

I voted for the losing team in the presidential election, but I do think it is pretty exciting that our country has elected our first ever president who is a minority. I've never thought about race, ethnicity, gender, or even age, when trying to decide who I think would be the best candidate for any office, or any job for that matter. But...this election did make history, and I think that is kind of cool.

Again, just my personal opinion, which when added to a $5 bill will get you a cup of pretty good coffee at Starbucks.

I hope this thread doesn't start any fist fights. Wink

.

Although I supported McCain/Palin I do want to congratulate President-elect Obama and his running mate Biden. They definitely earned their victory.

I wish them well. Our country and the world needs the very best leadership that can be mustered. I think everyone would agree that government, at all levels, should utilize its' considerable might and influence to guide both our economy and the world's economy towards prosperity.

Although I have my reservations, being a Cook County resident and having Obama as my US Senator, I do indeed hope that he is much more productive than he has previously shown.

And I do hope that he rewards those political creatures and their organization here in Cook County and Illinois the minimal amount possible. They deserve no more.

Now we can all lay off Governor Palin. She too will become an important part of rebuilding our prosperity as she now returns to govern the great State of Alaska. The same goes for Senator McCain as he returns to the US Senate.

Most won't agree, but I happen to agree strongly.

God bless the United States of America!

good

I didn't vote for our new president either. There's no doubt he gives a good speech...I hope the substance is there and he's ready. He controls the house, senate, and has the media in his back pocket. There's no excuses to not deliver everything he promised...and that's a lot. Bull market, full employment, health care for all, war ended, robust economy, 95% of american's getting a tax cut, etc. Everything should be rosy by the all star break next season! Let the party begin. party

The sad part is that they call him the first "black president"---fact is Obama is not black--he is 50/50 black and white---the media is not telling it like it is

I've said prayers of thanks that we do it here with ballots, not bullets. My guy Huckabee never got out of the chute, but clearly the country is ready for something new, and Obama is clearly the choice. We witnessed last night one of the two or three most significant events in our children's lives.

No more can anyone say this is not truly a land of opportunity as demonstrated by the election of a guy from a mixed-race marriage, with a "funny name", from Chicago via Hawaii, with roots in Kenya. Just amazing no matter what your political affiliation.

I pray for the success of President-elect Obama; the election is over and he's THE GUY.

Note to Obama: Don't be delaying the World Series again-you got elected in spite of that one. Oops, no pun intended. (..."that one"...)

God bless the USA! jumping

We witnessed a presidential election, it happens every 4 years, nothing historical about that. JFK is not a historical figure because he was the first Catholic president, it was because of what he did in office. The same will be true here. Elections are about image not substance, this election is just another piece in a growing list of evidence to that effect. Legacies are about achievements, of which, to date, the only one of those on the president-elects list, is his election. I do hope it is a growing and significant list.

Beware the press, they will turn when blood is in the water.

Pray not for lighter burdens, but for stronger backs.

CPLZ, I disagree to an extent. I suspected that whichever candidate won, 25 years from now we'll be pretty much the same either way in many respects, but with Obama's win, I think 75 years from now, history will look back upon his election as the turning of a page in the history of this Country. For anyone of any race to use their race as an excuse or reason not to accomplish anything, and let's face it that gets tossed up as an excuse for a lot of things, the bottom just dropped out of that excuse. That to me is a big deal.

JFK unfortunately didn't get much time to accomplish too much in office and likely is more "historical" because of his horrid and tragic death.

I'm not a big press fan; after each debate, I flipped back and forth between CNN and Fox; at times, it sounded like they covered different debates. Getting truly objective news and reporting seems to be getting harder, but you're right, when blood goes in the water, watch out. (Duke lacrosse or Atlanta Olympics bomber anyone?)

To keep it related to baseball, my local paper sport section had a significant article detailing how the MLB players want their bonus's paid (in December) before B. Hussein takes office as they all fall into the tax increase category.

I find it interesting that people who are affected by his policies are already reacting to his planned tax increases.

From a personal opinion standpoint. I think this election proved racism still exists at a significant level in the US. As nearly 100% of one particular race voted for their own race. That's a concern. If their vote wasn't race based, their spread would of been distributed a little.

At any rate, my state didn't elect him, but I guess we will support him for the next four years. He will have challenges, but will get my full support as our new leader.

Great points. He won the beauty contest. The form over substance part is over. Now he'll have to show us the substance we all hope he has. He's got all the power and control he needs. No excuses...he has to deliver. If he does, the country took a step forward in true equality. If he doesn't, I suspect we'll find out we took a step backward and caused people to dig in their heals.
